Which Macca?  This Macca...?

(This was Sunday after Malibu Tri...he hung out for a real long time signing autographs and chatting with folks.)

We may show up for the event.  (I think my wife has a crush on him now...)

Got home a little while ago from the event.  Good stuff.  I really liked his response to the (apparently somewhat incredulous) question as to why he (Macca) only trains with a power meter and doesn't use it in races.  The response was that he doesn't really even use it in training except at the beginning of the year to "set parameters for training".  His bottom line:  "If you want to be 6th at Kona and think that would be a good life to do that every year, then use the power meter [i.e., on the course].  If you want to win, the numbers will be in the way"...that the guys at the front can be held back by the numbers from trusting their feel for the race and how they're doing on that day relative to others.  Also liked his response about what he thinks about on the IM course...said what I keep preaching to my wife about running:  "Stay focused in the race as much as you can"...if you're suffering, embrace the fact of the suffering and examine it, look at what's going on with your form in the moment, that sort of thing...if your mind wanders (as it will), try to let it go to things that help your race, like other good days you've had on the course.  And great stories about his early failures at Kona and eating a helping of humble pie...and about the politics that kept him off the Aussie Olympic team in 2000.
