Overall Rank = 178/330

Age Group Rank = 24/31
Pre-race routine:

Worked on LOW STRESS!! routine. Night before packed and got directions, got off BT early enough, etc. AM woke in plenty of time, 2 packets of oatmeal and juice on the road. Jammed the tunes and headed out to the wild unknowns of webster ma. Never been there and had a nice peaceful, low stress drive.
Event warmup:

A little short of time but not harried. Met a Bter sporting the colors but embarrassed to say I couldnt remember his real or screen name :( But was cool. The best was looking high and low for KathyG. Finally found her and her fam. on the beach. Nice folks! Kathy looked like a pro!!

did a small swim to check the bottom conditions and course. Water was great. bottom was great and the course looked well marked.
Swim
  • 12m 47s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 27s / 100 yards
Comments:

The whole theme of this event was to CHILL, learn and make it through the heat. The swim theme was to get over the jitters of swimming w/ others. So I took the outside, but worked my way inside, got swam on and swam on others. Just kept looking around and moving forward. Felt good!
What would you do differently?:

not much. never going to be a fast swimmer, just get thru it!
Transition 1
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

t-1 times are my own.

Long jog, about a 1/4 mile, from beach to the racks. Tar wasnt too hot if you kept moving. Long distance but got it done. T-1 was dirt and gravel so a bthe elastics on the shoes bounced off and feet got dirty. But at least I got to practice the procedure of sliding the feet in anyway.
What would you do differently?:

not much. just practice more
Bike
  • 38m 26s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.73 mile/hr
Comments:

Rode 'baby' , my litespeed road bike, for this race. Good decision!! The triple helped and ready access to the brakes were both needed. Took max's advice and saved somethng for the run. Felt strong on the bike.

The ride was hot! and I now have a nice "BT" singlet tan line on my back!!
Transition 2
  • 03m
Comments:

t-2 was messed up for me. First of all, I didnt read the course right and the finish came up too fast to pull feet from the shoes so had to unclip fast. 2nd, I bypassed the timing mat but hit it on the way out. 3rd, I have to get 'speedlaces'!!

Run
  • 23m 25s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

In keeping with the theme of this race, I know the first part of the run was where my negative thoughts appear so I ran with another guy and chatted to a while. That helped a lot!! He told me to go after a bit and I was ready. Just took it easy on the run, paced it out. poured lots of cooll water on my face and neck too.
What would you do differently?:

not much
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some drink and snacks. Cooled down, no shade so worked on cooling within. Met up with KathyG's fam and watched her come across the finish!! She looked so strong!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

no need to be faster. Just happy to be able to do the event!!

Event comments:

Typical FIRM race. Good but not great. Glad to have them do it but wish they would improve some course markings and maybe a little more post race swag.

Geez, I knew ya could do it! Great run time...I can't even approach that for just the run, never mind tossing in the other 2 events first! See, save something for the run and you finish strong. Hope I can take my own advice!

It was nice meeting you and having you there to cheer me on when I finished!

You did great and sounds like low stress worked for you but it was hot. You did super on the run...after all it was hot and last. I only dream of having times like yours.

The time for the swim was coming out of the water on the beach. The T1 time is added to your bike. It was long from the beach to T1. Hope to see you again at another race this summer. Great Job!
