Since there are a lot of "geeks" in the tri world, myself included, I thought I'd see if any of you have any thoughts on this. I'm looking for a new place to host some websites that I maintain. The domains are registered through GoDaddy.com, so I started looking at what they offer for hosting, and it looks certainly decent, if not good. Do any of you have any experiences, good or bad, with hosting a website with GoDaddy? I'd love to get some feedback!

Don't have any experience in this area whatsoever, but GoDaddy.com sponsors one of the podcasts I listen to (Coverville), so if you use the coupon code "COVER" you can get 10% off.

What are you looking to spend - I think Rackspace would be a little more than you are looking for if you have a couple small sites... Are you looking for dedicated or shared?

Good question tmwelshy - shared. No need for dedicated at this point. And yes, Rackspace is a little much for what we need.

I use myhosting.com for a smallish commercial website, and I've had *excellent* service, very, very low costs, and excellent availability and backup. It's a shared environment, at the higher end for personal sites and the low end for commercial-type sites. Very reputable company, too.

Are you looking for something that you can resell and structure sites on, or somewhere to drop a couple of static sites? Is it e-commerce or transactional? And finally, what level of support and uptime do you need? And really finally, what do you want to spend?

Gosh Welshy, so many questions! Looking to drop a few existing sites to a new host. I need PHP and MySQL on the server, as well as Perl and db_file for some functionality. Currently, paying just under $100 / year. GoDaddy appears to be a little under $50 / year for what should meet my needs, with 99.9% uptime and 24x7 support.

That should be fine - you can also check out MySQL as well as the other options listed....

I use doteasy. It's just HTML though, but it's free. They have other packages too.
