Brand New Day

Sunny
Total Time = 56m 24s
Overall Rank = 507/1955
Age Group =
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Got up about 4.30am and had some yoghurt and fruit for breakfast, and headed off to QE2 Park to set up transition area. You check your bike in and register the day before. Went to the rest rooms numerous times, hehe, while thinking why the heck do I do this?? :-)
Event warmup:

Warmup?? No warmup.....
Swim
  • 06m 58s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim time was in top 23%
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, was pleased with swim, and I bolted out of the pool to my bike which was quite a long way away.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Had to stop and take a breath before got on bike as my HR was way up and needed a bit of time to take stock and concentrate so I didn't fall flat on my face in front of the hundreds of spectators with cameras :-)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 25m 28s
  • 10 kms
  • 23.56 km/hr
Comments:

Was wrapped with bike, ranked in the top 15%, went hard out the whole way. Forgot cycle computer so had no idea of speed but about 27km/ph sounds about right.
What would you do differently?:

Put cycle computer on and drink more.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Stopped bike, unclipped shoes, ran a few steps with shoes, stopped, took shoes off, put them on aerobars and ran to transition - quite a long way to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Really need to practise getting out of shoes and biking wih feet on top of shoes so can jump off and run, instead of mucking round with taking shoes off.
Run
  • 21m 56s
  • 3 kms
  • 07m 19s  min/km
Comments:

Run placing was top 45%, its OK, the run is my worst part, and it was hot. Run was OK, as usual suffered through it LOL. HR way up, MHR reached was 195 (98%!!) during the sprint to the end, I had the shakes afterwards, hehe. Last years run wasn't measured correctly, it was short, so this year was measured properly and was exactly 3km, so was pleased with run time
What would you do differently?:

Get better at running LOL
Post race
Warm down:

None, had some food and sat in the shade

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Long distance to transition areas, but that affects everyone, it was hot, other than that I was pleased with the race.

Event comments:

I really put a lot of effort into this race and was really pleased with the results I had, especially in the bike! I was hoping to get under the 1 hour time. My results for the same race last yer was 1:00:37, this year 56:24.

You posted a 4 minute improvement from last years race??? Congratulations!
I hope you're really happy with your racing form.

Taking your feet out of your shoes does take a little practice, but it's easier than getting your feet in on the way out of T1. Definitely worth learning and going over again & again & again.

wow great race,  thats a great improvement from last year.  I'm trying to learn how to get my feet out of my shoes too before transition.  I'm practising using a wind trainer,  that way I can't fall off and damage myself again!

I always have that feeling just before a race,  why am I doing this again and who's idea was this.  Its always such a diff feeling on the finish line.

great race well done!!

Thanks Guys, yep it is a reasonably short race but there aren't many races close to me, I had to travel 700km to that one as it was.
