Subject: Opinions on Fugi D6 3.0..

Hi there,

Well, I'd like to upgrade from my converted roadie and would get a good deal at my LBS. There just don't seem to be many Fugi's around but looking it up on Fugibikes.com I like what I see. What say you?

Does it fit you well? If so, then get it. :-)

The one thing I don't like that is in the specs is the various components. Dura Ace shifters, Front Derailleur is 105, Real Derailleur is Ultegra, and Cassette is Tiagra.   For a $3000 bike, you would think that ALL of them would be Ultegra or all Ultegra with DA Shifters.

If I were you, I would negotiate with the LBS and see if they can swap out the cassette for an Ultegra and/or the Front Derailleur for Ultegra.  If you already got sweet wheels, then you don't really need to worry about the cassette or just get a new cassette. 

That's my take on it.

Fuji D6 is one of the sexiest looking bikes out there. Fuji is not that common around the US, but its an very old and respected Japanese bike company. My first tri bike was a Fuji Aloha and I loved it. A Fuji D6 is used by Matt Reed - one of the top US Triathletes of the past decade.

Thanks for your opinions guys and DJ I think I'll make those suggestions to my shop and see what they can do for me. I may be able to get pair of those flat kind of carbon aerobars too, saw them at a show on sale for $200, so that might be a nice upgrade too.

The bike is beautiful

Components arent great for the money.

Little/no aero data (admitted I havent searched extensively)

 

Youre first question should be, does it fit you?

Hi TriSte,

It is a beautiful bike, see my problem! I don't know if it fits me b/c they don't have any built in the store, urgh. I know some of their team members bought some last year..maybe they can ask one of them to let me take theirs for a spin? or if I get it and it's just not a fit maybe they'll let me exchange.

I just kind of figure I'm a blank slate with a tri bike since I'm coming from a converted roadie and any tri bike will feel strange, so hoping I can just decide to like it.   Not very scientific, I know.

I think msrp is 3000 most bikes I have seen are 2400 to 2 k I think I have a 2.0 I bought on eBay for 2800 and I love it cervelo p2 is 2400 on sale and is a better bike in the wind tunnel but the fuji is sexy . I love mine

You should be aware of the 76 degree seat tube angle and the absence of a dual position or adjustable seat post.

Many tri/TT bikes have moved towards a 78 degree seat post angle, or at least giving riders the option to effectively increase the seat tube angle with a dual or adjustable seat post like Cervelo does.

I would highly recomment getting fitted (by an independant fitter, not having the bike built up and you fitted to the bike) before buying this bike.

Agree that fit comes first. I have an '09 D6, put about 1500 miles on it last year. Picked it up at a deep discount, since it was still new, but two years old.

No real issues, happy with the bike.

Since its my first tri bike, I can't compare it to anything else.

One thing about Fuji, they tend to have high MSRP for the components, then will have "huge" discounts at sales, mailing it look like maybe a better deal than it really is.

Also, the front brake line runs trough the head tube, which can be a challenge to get back together if you pull the fork off, or mess around with the stack/stem. This brake line location also means some GPS brackets won't work, since they pick up the screw for the headset cap that would be there if not for the brake line.
