Subject: Marines help a young boy finish a triathlon

From CNN.com.

"During the 2012 Sea Turtle Triathlon in Pensacola, a young boy's prosthetic limb broke during the run. Local Marines who had volunteered to help monitor the course picked him up and carried him the rest of the way to the finish line. There weren't very many dry eyes in the crowd cheering everyone on. The Marines also helped urge on many other racers and ran with them across the finish line. Semper Fi!"

I bet this Marine didn't even think twice, it was a natural reaction to the situation given his upbringing and training.

Oorah.

I'd have called for air support.

I knew someone would post it but was that really necessary?

Marines these days all know someone with a prosthesis.

You can't see a kid drop out for that. Now this kid needs to get some legs that work and enlist.

That's coming someday.

I thank God on a regular basis for the Marines as well as the other branches of the military.

I couldn't believe how many wounded Marines I saw running at last year's Marine Corps Marathon. Pretty sobering, and really cemented my view of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

No reason why someone with a prosthesis can't enlist, especially in this day of drones and remote-controlled war.

I ran the MCM with two below the leg amputees in 2008.  Crossing the finish line was amazing.  All those people at the finish cheering like we just scored a winning touchdown in a football stadium.  I had tears in my eyes.  That was really cool for those guys.

I hope that doesn't fade-away so soon.

There have been a few guys who've gone back to serving in combat roles with prosthesis (I think 2) but I agree, remote controls, plenty of garrison jobs. There's opportunities for them.

Well you'd have to wonder whether the child wished he had been picked up by a faster runner to shave a few minutes off his time
