No one was home and they do not have a phone number listed in the neighborhood directory or easily found on google.

Is there anything I can do?  It's shooting up a few feet in the air- so it's a lot of water...

Call the water company and report the problem to them? If it's well water, then, disregard.

I see it periodically in my early morning runs, but it is generally one of the sprinkler heads that stop once the cycle is over.

It was in the high teens here last night- so I'm guessing it froze and then when it warmed up enough it geisered.  I will try and figure out who to call at the city.  Thanks!

Hook'em - 2013-05-02 1:23 PM I see it periodically in my early morning runs, but it is generally one of the sprinkler heads that stop once the cycle is over.

If I had a dollar for every sprinkler head that actually waters the road along my morning ride route, I'd be able to buy a few nice jerseys...

There should be a requirement to check the direction of your sprinklers every month or face a fine for waste. Water's a precious commodity in most of the country.

Wow- the city was really nice- said most likely a back flow valve with the hard freeze last night and it being 50 something today.  They are sending someone out to turn it off.

Thanks for your help!

Good for you caring enough to make the call.  I'm telling you, most parts of this country are going to wish they were more strict on their water conservation some day when we're all paying as much as Phoenix for water.

Well, around here, there are control valves from in the street and usually someplace in the yard (we don't need to have them in the house here - not cold enough).

If it were ME, you could route out the valve and just shut off all the water and then leave a note.  But I would be a little concerned that that could create more problems for some reason.  So maybe if it's someone I knew well enough.

Irrigation is usually only on for 10-20 minutes, so leave a note, and realize it's a waste, but not catastrophic (if is IS just s sprinkler head or irrigation).

If it's a main?  call the water dept.

That.  If it went on for awhile I'd turn their water valve for them and leave a note and maybe call the city after that.  The water could be spewing half a day before the city gets out there....
