I know we have 30 minutes to edit a post, but it would be cool if we were able to delete a post too (that would take care of double-posts). Just a thought....

We have to ask the developer of the BBS a question about this...

I like the idea!

From a moderator standpoint, this would make life fairly hard.  Imagine if people started posting inflammatory things, which of course would draw responses, then they delete the original post.  Trying to discover the flow of a thread and the actual events would then become forensics, involving lots more 'he said, she said' stuff, and in turn would then become more of a developer task.  I'm much more willing to live with the occasional double post than to have posts falling off threads without warning, obscuring the audit trail, which is our only guide to figure out how to keep BT safe and clean.

From a BT member standpoint, DP's don't bother me, and if there's content that needs to be deleted, it probably shouldn't have been posted in the first place.

True, but we are already able to edit posts, which can "delete" things that were said (just not the whole post itself), and does this cause you a problem?

Not too much, currently, although I've seen it in 2 instances that I can think of.  One person absolutely was covering their tracks.  But in my mind, it's not whether it does, it's whether it could.

Looks like we now have the capability to delete. At least I do...

Edit: at least in CoJ and TT I can. Doesn't look like I can here...

This is a trial in those 2 forums.

The same time limit applies to deleting as to editing: 30 minutes. As long as it isn't abused and we don't have people playing games like intentionally posting temporary flames it'll stay.

Unfortunately the 30 minute limit that applies to editing doesn't apply to deleting as we believed, so it had to be turned off.
