Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas : Official Thread

Let me know what you find, and what rate. I'm reading last years thread and it seams that Conroe is an easy commute with less expense.

This is my first Ironman, so very excited about it. We have been having high humidity/heat up here in Minnesota, but in April/May, that is lacking. So I was going to try and arrive 4-5 days before the IM to try and acclimate. Otherwise, I've read folks who dress up and run/cycle inside with no fan a few weeks before the event.

I'm in for my first.  Easy commute since it's almost our back yard (30 miles).  Did my first century yesterday.  

I've got a long way to go before May.

I stayed at the Residence Inn  Market St the first year ... great hotel, with a small kitchenette, plus free breakfast and walking distance to everything. This past year we stayed at the host hotel and really liked it so will be doing that again this year.

Training kicks off 1/1/13!

I am in also.  My first IM.  I actually live in The Woodlands, so it is too hard to pass up.  I have volunteered the first two years and was inspired by all of those amazing athletes.

I am an ultrarunner that has learned to swim in the last year.  Slowly learning to bike too!  Looking forward to gleaning all the information I can to help me cross that finish line!

For a Texas resident, the thing that makes this such an attractive race is that the bulk of your high volume training will be done in the cooler weather. Most of the big volume weeks will be in Feb - April, before it gets too hot.

No doubt that race day could be a scorcher, but normal highs for The Woodlands in that part of May are upper 80's. Personally, I think time of year for your big training months should play a large role in IM race selection decisions.

I'm in!  Now the fun begins!
