I also did IMMT last year, and I'd say the Syracuse bike course is a pretty good primer on the IMMT course as well. |

So far so good, I just kicked off my training for IMMT and Syracuse this week. I'm going with the Endurance Nation 14 week outseason plan and then I'll roll into their 20 week intermediate IM training plan following that. How about you have you officially kicked off your training yet for IMMT? |

Thanks and that's good to know. I did Syracuse last year. The bike course is all uphill for the first 12 to 15 miles and the run is tough with those two long steep hills back to back on the backend of the out back run. And since it a two loop course you get to do them twice. I'm hoping it helps in preparing for IMMT. |

Though there's more time in between, still will be good getting ready for IM Louisville which I'm planning to sign up for as well. |

I am quite slow and injure easily so my goals are most likely different than most of you. I will be the one in nose plugs on the swim and walking the hills on the run lol! Still...a long way from the doggie paddle and 5 k I started with a few years back. The peer pressure of friends is both awesome and terrifying! |

The peer pressure of friends is both awesome and terrifying! Hey, we've all been there at one time or another in our own ways! And looks like you've come a long way already. The important thing is to start, then race your race following how you've trained so that you can meet your goal of finishing. Actually, that's always my base goal and I've had to readjust back down to that if other goals weren't being met. Sometimes you just never know just what you can do. See you at the start! |

I reluctantly signed up again for this year after a brutal day in the heat last year. It's just too close of a race to pass up. Not having to travel makes it appealing, especially after so much traveling around last year. See you all there! |

How about you have you officially kicked off your training yet for IMMT? I'm not using a plan per se, but I have started my training for IMMT and Syracuse. I started base building back in October and have been increasing the length and intensity of my workouts since. I won't start a formal plan (it would almost be impossible for me to stick to one given my work schedule anyway), but will continue building towards Syracuse and MT on my own. That said, I look at various plans to get ideas to help my sketch out my training week ahead, so I guess I use a smorgabord of various plans to a certain degree. I know I won't MTQ or KQ, so I'm just hoping for a good day out at Syr and MT. |

I loosely followed the IronFit training plans and modified them to fit my schedule. All in all in worked out well. My goal was to finish IMWI and I was able to do that. I think you'll be fine training for IMMT and Syracuse. |

They actually called the race early due to the weather. There were a lot of people who wound up finishing it anyway after they called the race. |

Let's hope Mother Nature cooperates this year...and while we're on the topic, can we order up some nice strong tailwinds for this year's race? Edited by LarchmontTri 2014-01-16 11:33 AM |

I remember it because i felt like death doing a training run that day. I think I ran 12-13 miles and could not imagine it after the swim and run...brutal, brutal, bad day for a half lol. |

I came up from Long Island and it was actually cool when I left there. I don't think anybody was prepared for that unless of course you were from FL lol. There was carnage all over the course. I believe the heat index was like 118. The run at Syracuse is tough enough without that type of weather it was nearly impossible to run the entire thing in that weather. I'm sure there were probably a few who did that but I think most of us were walking at some point in that race. Let's hope we don't get a repeat of that this year. |

A long continuous swim isn't really necessary. |

As I said in the other thread...Thought that all plans would include a long swim here and there. I'll just add my own so that I go into the race confident. (See my name... it explains it all.) We are supposed to HarryMan as a warm up, then go to Syracuse for a preview of the course. We were looking for another 70.3, having done Eagleman the last 2 years. Is there a new run course ? |

Expert 2380 Mastic Beach, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Syracuse : Official Thread The course isn't that bad. The bike is tough for the first 12 to 15 miles since it's mainly uphill but after that it's really not that bad. The run is tough when you have to run the two long uphills on the out of the out and back. You have to do that twice to so that is not easy even on a good weather day. The weather last year definitely made it a lot tougher though. It's a bit of a challenging course but not really that bad. |
