Did you see it?  I'm a Denzel fan, so needed to check it out...

It was ok I guess...  BUT, I like a twist as much as the next guy, but the one for this movie was just too hard to accept.  And I can suspend belief pretty well.  It just sort of bothered me.

Thoughts?

I thought it was a great show, and it reminded me that I need to work harder at memorizing scripture. So in the weeks that have passed since, I have all of Psalm 1, about 85% of Romans 8, Psalm 16, and Psalm 103 memorized.

The ending didn't catch me by surprise because we check Christian movie review sites before we go see a show to be sure there's no nudity in them and while I was reading one review they spoiled the surprise.

Edit: Besides, you think he can be missed by bullets and that's believable, but the other thing is not?

that was the second question they never cleared up.  Was he missed, hit and no damage, did it get stopped by his back pack?  Was he protected by a higher force/being?

I understand people like that situation can develop abilities that "seem" uncanny, but they took it to the extreme (and beyond), but I would like to see them take on 10 guys with weapons and not get touched.  Now maybe if they knew Kung Fu!!!  (like all the Wu Tang movies!)

In an interview, Denzel says that when he has a plot with multiple, possible explanations... he purposefully tries to not have one opinion over another because he does not want to bias the audience's ability to interpret the film in their own way.

I think if the explanation was devine guidance and protection, I could accept that.  But I guess that's up to the viewer to conclude.  The film didn't really elude to it.

It could also just be post apocoliptic development of powers, but they really didn't say that either.

I guess it IS up the viewer to make their own conclusions...

BUT, I'm one who sort of does not like that.  I want to be entertained and told a story, not add my own conclusions to it.

sort of like the Supranos last episode.  I wanted the story to end, not leave it up to us to end it in our heads...

I went specifically because I am a huge Denzel fan, therefore it's really hard for me to say that this movie SUCKED!!!  As the OP stated, the twist at the end is EXTREMELY hard to believe especially given the opening fight scene.  Still a Denzel fan, NOT a fan of the Book of Eli.

I thought it was a good mivie, but it could have used a little more action. As far as the shootout scene, I noticed before I found out the twist, when I was actually watching it that he only fired at people after they fired at him.

I noticed that as well and realized it more when I reflected back on it...

But that's sort of the thing I'm talking about.  He was a dead shot.  I know you can hear the shots and know where they came from, but be that accurate, and know how/where to take cover so effortlessly?

Also, just things like walking down the center of a road with all the cars and obsticles would be impossible...

In the first fight scene, he backed away out of the sunlight to take away the others advantage of good sight. plus....the moved from a bright environment to a dark one, which hindered the others. The warmth of the sun had to wake him up in the silo as well. There were tells throughout the movie, but it was very hard to rationalize. My take home message was the Lord is much more powerful than we can comprehend.

I was also confused by this. The ending certainly lead me to believe that they intended us to think that he was lead by some divine force, but looking back i wasnt sure if they also intended him to be some divine being as well. (like all the stories of angels who brought stories to diff people throughout history). My biggest turn off was the girl at the end, where the hell was she going? to restore peace to the town, or bring the gospel to these people whom denzel had avoided? wouldnt it be against the code of the bible to not share the  gospel with the people of the town?

Well, first of all it's important to remember that you're talking about a movie created by a person, not by God Himself. Secondly, even Jesus and Paul skipped towns entirely on their way to other places, so this "code of the bible" is something you've concluded on your own apart from the actual teachings of the Bible.
