Skuut

We're looking at getting two of these for my twin sons second birthday.  It's fairly simple idea.  It is a wooden bike with no pedals.  So they push off and glide on the two wheels.  Supposedly alot of fun and helps with balance more than a bike with training wheels.  The problem is they are $90 a piece.  Again, it is a wooden bike with no pedals.  I guess it is currently one of those "it" toys so the demand is high enough that they can get it, but it just seems kinda crazy.

They are awesome. Depending on how tall your kid is though a Strider may be better, more adjustment range for seat height.

You can also get a cheaper version of the Skuut on Target.com. Just search for balance bike on their site, there are a bunch of options and they go on sale from time to time

I thought about getting one when my son was about ready to learn how to ride a bike.  Instead I got him a regular bike (for less than $90) and took the pedals off.  He learned how to push off and balance.  Once I felt he was ready, I put the pedals back on.  It worked out great.

agreed... just get the bike... take off the pedals and drop the seat... did that and my oldest was riding his bike in about a week.

I wish I had known about these when my kids were younger... Two of my kids had a little bit of a hard time learning to ride a bike, and I think these would have helped.

We did the exact same thing.  My son rode a Skuut at the playground one day and loved it.

I took his pedals off a few weeks ago and had him coasting all over an empty parking lot with a slight hill.

Put the pedals back on the next day and he has been riding ever since.

It's a great concept, get them used to balancing and pedaling is easy.

Balance bikes are superb. much better than riding with stabiliser wheels as kids learn to lean through the corners rather than turning the bars. Soon as they can get up to running speed and lifting their legs to coast they will be able to pedal a bike. My boy was 3 when he got a balance bike and was riding a proper bike at 3 1/2, safely and at slow speeds as well. My youngest is having a bit more trouble but I think that is because he cant be bothered. The adjustable seat is a good idea.

We purchased one for our kiddo and she loves it. However, it is really tall, even after you flip the seat and do everything else that is recommended. You can also get a bike and take the cranks out or get a strider.

One friend has the Wishbone Bike for their kid. It is a wooden trike that works like the scuut but you can also convert it to a bigger two wheeled bike.

Just my two cents.
