Disc/ deep rimmed wheel questions

I have heard of using a magnet with double sided tape, but that's not too reliable. I had that set up on my first bike. My next bike I went with a front magnet for my computer. As far as the spares...carry two and hope you don't get 2 flats with one wheel. Not too mention trying to inflate a disc with a CO2 cartridge and disc adapter. Knock on wood I haven't had a rear flat in a race or I think I will be DNF.

I tried electrical and duct tape, man nothing will stick to that Zipp disc.  Obviously I can move the computer to the front wheel, just trying to avoid the hastle.  What spares did you carry in your ironman race?

Go with a Garmin. Strap the GPS unit to your handlebars and you are golden. I ride 404's and I got tired of switching out the magnet for my computer, so I bought a Garmin and I absolutely love the thing.

I ride canyons and wooded areas alot and I have never lost a signal. It is really helpful as well to just rip it off the bike and strap it to your wrist for a quick transition run.

I just had idea for spares -- carry a valve extended instead. They are cheap and I used them until I went through all of my normal tubes.

With an extender, you carry tubes with shorter valves and use the extended on the front wheel if it goes flat. That way you would not have a problem with having the wrong tube if one wheel goes flat multiple times.

The extender is basically a thin aluminum tube with some threads inside one end. It threads onto the Presta valve on the same threads as the little black cap that comes with your tube, and it will go on with the valve open or closed.
I would suggest that. You can leave it on the valve on your front wheel, that way it's always there when you need it regardless of what tube you have. It hardly weighs anything at all.

also prewrap your spare tubes with teflon tape. Nothing like losing a 4g of a 16g co2 due to leaks

My magnet is glued to my Renn with gorilla glue.

For my spare tubulars, I wrap the threads on my presta valves with teflon tape and carry a couple of valve extenders and a small plastic valve wrench. My Alps front uses a longer extender then my Renn, or my Hed 3.

There are a couple of types of valve extenders. Plastic and aluminum ones where you open the pista valve and then screw these over them. The long tube of the extender protects the stem of the pista valve from being engaged to release air.

The other type has a valve built in them. With these you remove the valve from the tube and replace with the extender. I prefer these, but they aren't as practical when you have different sized of extenders that you need to use.
