Actually, Tyrann Mathieu  was not on the LSU football team anymore.  He had been thrown off the team for failing 2 drug tests (marijuana) before the season started.  He had decided to stay in school and try to get back on the team next year. He had been getting counseling and by most accounts was on a good track. Stupid.

By coincidence, Sports Illustrated just did a piece on him in their latest issue.  His father is in prison serving a murder sentence, and was, according to the article, a bonifide 1st or 2nd round NFL pick in his own right but drugs ruined his chance as well.

The Honey Badger could play....and was fun to watch.....dumb.
