Decapitated snake bites itself...

We have a couple of really big black rat snakes that live in and around our gardens and patio.  I see them 4 or 5 times a year, especially when baby birds are in the nests up under our deck...the snakes get up behind our siding and then work their way up to the rafters and stay up there for a couple of weeks eating the eggs and baby birds I guess.

This past Spring I had pulled my bike and trainer out onto the patio under our top deck so I could do some repeat brick intervals.  I had my head down pedaling hard on the bike and when I raised up one of those suckers was literally staring me in the face while it hung from a rafter......scared the crap out of me.

My son and I were watching an old episode of Man vs. Wild last night and Bear Grylls cut a snakes head off and was playing with the head with a stick cautioning about its ability to still bite.  Kind of freaky. 

What I thought might have been more weird was not the snake head bit, that could just be automatic instinct.  But the tail/body was making an effort to get it off without the brain.

I guess it could be like when we touch something hot.  The body moves before the brain knows it touch something hot in order to  limit damage.

After reading all these comments I'm too scared to watch the video...
