As many of you know, I'm heading towards seminary and often preach at my church. Because I recognize this forum as a thriving community, I hoped to obtain some BT assistance.

First, I should say that there is nothing you can say that would offend me. I'm really interested in honest responses to the following questions:

Regardless of whether or not you go to church, what do you consider to be the positives of Christian community/church?
What are the negatives?
What are the positives of this on-line community?
What are it's limitations/drawbacks?

Please PM me with your answers or send them to [email protected]

I really do appreciate your assistance. If you want to know the purpose, I'm giving a talk on community life. I'd be happy to share with you any of my conclusions/thoughts.

Again, thanks so much!

Dana

Dana,

Would love to respond to your request. What a broad scope of issues you raise, will have to give this some thought. It may take me a while but I'll do my best. May I ask the denomination of your Church/Seminary?

Karl,

Let's see... did not grow up in the church at all. Became a Christian when I went to college through an interdenominational campus missionary organization called InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Continue to be a part of an interdenominational church that has a blend of members with Protestant, Catholic and zero church background.

Heading off to Fuller Seminary which is a Protestant seminary. I do not plan to become ordained, so will not need to affiliate with a specific denomination. If I did, I'd need to think about it. Not having grown up in a denominational church I'm not very well versed in what their backgrounds are.

I think that's it. But I LOVE my church and growing up and in college I was probably one of the types of people least drawn to 'organized religion'. I'm extremely interested in the draw of community and it's purposes and evolution.

So... I look forward to hearing what you might have to say! Thanks for asking, Karl.

Actually the talk, is over, but I'm extremely interested in feedback from all sorts!! That's why I brought the question here, I figured this would be the broadest scope of experience, beliefs and opinions... and all at the tip of my fingers!! This is a topic that I find of great interest and importance.

The talk, btw, went well. (o:

I'll tell more later.
