I don't own an HRM yet, but will be watching this thread closely.  Can anyone recommend one under $75?

Thanks,

I did some homework before buying my Garmin 305 but have never tried any of the others.  For me it came down to wanting GPS with the HRM and this was the best option (without having multiple items).

Best tip... shop around!  We bought ours at a great rate of 252.  That's 100 less than anyone else, so make sure you look for the deals.

Been training with my Garmin 301 (now $152 at walmart.com) for a year now and have absolutely loved it ... cannot imagine training and not knowing my pace, distance traveled and HR in real time.

It is also handy when doing interval workouts as it will tell you when to change intensity while keeping track of distance, time or both.

I liked my Garmin 301. However during the Firmman triathlon this year, the heart rate stopped working. I have not been able to get it to work since. Any suggestions? The swim for the Firmman is in the ocean but I did not wear the monitor duirng the swim, just the chest strap. Any suggestions?

The polar HRM that I used would often read "00" so that is one of the reasons I got the garmin. Plus I like the GPS ability as well.

I got a Polar one that is sold at Targetnot sure which model... I think I paid around 70.00 and it works great! I wear the watch all the time just as a regular watch and it have gone through everything (bike accidents, swims, races, showers... everything). I love it and it works great for me.... 3rd season. The chest strap is comfortable that I don't even notice when I have it on. I had bought a cheaper one and returned it for this one. I will keep it until either it breaks down or I become rich and can buy whatever and whenever I want!

I have Polar 625X and absolutely love it! I think it retails for $369 and I got it brand new on Ebay for $250.  Of course, it's not just a HR monitor, it's a running computer....pretty amazing!  Accurate speed and distance, HR, laps, calories burned, polar fitness test and HR max and a ton of other features....and I haven't even gotten into programming workouts.

I got the Timex Ironman 30-lap Heart Rate Monitor for Christmas. I'm very, very please with it so far. I think my wife got it off of Amazon.com for about $65-$70.

I love my Garmin 301.  I hated not knowing what my average heart rate was or more accurately not knowing what happened during a workout, other than looking at it when I was huffing and puffing.  Being able to look back after the bike/run and see that going up that hill spiked my heart rate to 189 is good info.
