molto veloce mama 9311 | Subject: Autumn's Group - FULL AUTUMN family situation: stay at home mom. married for 7+ years. two daughters, ages 5 1/2 and 3. also hosting a 17 year old german high school student for the year. prior to being at home, i worked as an american sign language/english interpreter. how i train, pending races: train from a plan, often blending plans to suit my needs and goals. don't belong to a gym (for financial reasons, but also because i'd never go - i prefer being outside), so i do all my training either outdoors, often with the kids (jogging strollers, burley) or at home (basement bike trainer, free weights, etc. - kids get to watch pbs for a while). i swim at a local pool. 2006 was my 3rd triathlon season, in which i finished my first half-ironman distance. for '07, i am planning on doing my first marathon, my first off road triathlon, and possibly another half-ironman. weightloss goals: at the time of my first tri in 2004, i was around 185 (190 at the time i signed up, 6 months after child #2 was born). after my first 1/2 marathon that fall, i was down to 175. in 2005 i started training more and tracked everything i ate, and went from 175 to 155. gained a bit over the racing season, so ended the year at 160. gained about 10 over the winter. stayed around 165-170 this year, and am now back down to 160...hoping to be back at 155 or lower by the start of next season. my goal is to be in the 140s at some point, but i don't believe its really a point A to point B thing...but an ongoing process of staying healthy and trim. Expert 853 Fort Worth, Texas | Subject: RE: Autumn's Group - OPEN I would like to join! Sports: I am 38 years old and have been fairly athletic all my life. I played tennis all through high school and college. Other sports I have played at times include soccer, basketball, volleyball and racquetball. I have snow skiied and water skiied all my life and ran my first 10k in high school upon the urging of my father. I have done MANY 10k's over my life, but NEVER fast. My fastest time was in high school and I ran it in just under an hour. I would like to improve my speed and become a "runner", instead of a "jogger". I did my first tri six years ago. I LOVED it and really meant to do another one. I just didn't know they were all over the place and sort of thought I had to do that same one in a year. Well, the next year I was pregnant and we missed it the next few years for various reasons. Finally in 2006, we signed up to do it again. I trained some for it, but not too much. I started on BT in September and have LOVED this site. It has been a huge help for me and has kept me on a much more regular workout schedule. Family: I have been married for 11 and 1/2 years and have three kids, two girls 8 and 5 and we adopted a son in November of 2005. My husband, dblack1801 is also a BT person. I got him to check out the site and at first he thought I was NUTS talking to people on the computer, however, since then he has joined on and is active. Training: I don't have a specific training plan and since I am new to this I am still trying to figure out many things. I read many of these blogs and threads and it seems like people are speaking a different language. I am definitely not an expert when it comes to equipment. I just got a new bike (early Christmas) yesterday and while I like it, I just don't geel like I know enough to know the difference. I have been a cyclist for most of my life since I was young, but I just don't pay that much attention. I had been riding a road bike from my college days and actually prefer my mountain bike, but I am rather slow on it. Weight: I am currently doing the weight loss challenge and have lost 10 lbs! Yippee, I would like to lose another 8 and then concentrate on decreasing body fat %. I have fluctuated from 155 - 200 and am 5'10". I would like to be around 160. I look forward to having you for a mentor! BT has really helped me and now my husband and I are registered to do our first Half Ironman next October! I plan to do several sprints and olys as well. Plus we are now training for our first half marathon in February. |

Expert 832 Framingham, MA | Subject: RE: Autumn's Group - OPEN Can I join too? Username / Name: swadland / Scott Wadland Family: 35 year old father of twin girls (4 years old). My wife is a runner, and is very supportive of my training. Background: I've been cycling on-and-off for about 20 years, mainly doing century rides and multi-day charity rides. A few years ago I started swimming because my girls started getting interested in it. I have never been a runner, so that is my weakness. 2006 was my "first" year in triathlons, if you can call it that. I did one mini-sprint and did the swim leg of an Olympic. However, I was ill-prepared for both, so I've gotten more formal about training for next year. Training: I'm currently following the 20 Week Sprint - Run Focused plan, but I'm substituting the running with the Couch-to-5k "Agressive" 16 Week plan. So far it seems to be working OK. Running is still a struggle for me, primarily due to dealing with shin splints. I'm also working on some weight training and volleyball 1x per week. Racing: Next year I hope to do a handful of sprints, leading up to an Olympic in August. Weight: In July of 2005 I joined Weight Watchers at 251 pounds (I'm 6'1). Over the next 28 weeks I lost 56 pounds. However, once I started exercising more I forgot about eating right and crept back up to around 225. My goal in 2007 is to figure out how to successfully combine triathlon training and WW. That's all I can think of for now - it's a tough Monday! Edited by swadland 2006-12-18 9:46 AM |

Pro 4578 Vancouver, BC | Subject: RE: Autumn's Group - OPEN Autumn can I join your group? My goals this year are mostly bike races, but my plans might include a sprint tri as well. I think you are great mom and have a great outlook on life and training and that attracts me to your group. This year I would also like to lose 10-15lbs and I have a difficult time losing weight, but your weightloss goals inspire me. A bit about me: I'm 29 living in Vancouver BC. I like to ride my bike and swim but I dislike running mostly because I get blisters on my feet when I run. I completed my first tri in 2003 and I've completed about 10 tris since then. Besides sports, I enjoy volunteering and animals. Up to last year I was a regular volunteer at the SPCA and I am the head marshal for a major bike race in BC. I am also active in encouraging women to start bike racing. I've lived in Vancouver most of my life, so my family is here as well as my SO, but I did spend one year of my life in Japan as an exchange student. Next year I am thinking of a move to Sydney for a year. |

Extreme Veteran 498 Montana | Subject: RE: Autumn's Group - FULL username/name: Willow(after my dog) real name-Amy family: married to my dh of 13 years- have three daughters aged 12, 9 and 5 background: also a highschool athlete like Jill( volleyball, basketball, track, skiing)- road biked and mountain biked through highschool too...kept skiing. Spring of 2003 was desperately sad at my post baby 160 pound weight that had never come off even though I had a two year old. Bought a beautiful road bike and rode two centuries that summer- Tour de Cure for diabetes. Summer 2004, rode three centuries- 2 for Tour de Cure and one for a little boy who died from Cancer here in our town. Summer 2005...worked out a little here and there hovering around 150 pounds. April 2006...found this websight and was encouraged and inspired so much that I did my first ever sprint distance tri- offroad xterra. Loved it so much, did my first Oly tri in August. Amazingly lost 15 pounds in the process. training Currently healing tendonitis so I haven't run for over a week which is depressing me very much. I work out 6-7 days a week spinning, lifting, yoga, kickboxing, swimming- start tomorrow back to work as a ski patroller so my workout days will drop a bit since I ski two - four days a week. RacingI want to heal my knee so that I can run my first 1/2 mary this summer...and do a 10 mile trail run race in early June. I also want to do an Olympic distance off road triathlon in June that is here in Montana. I may end up having to choose just two of the three. Weight Am managing to hover around 135 which is just fine with me. I would like to maintain this at least, possibly dropping to 130 for the summer if my body wants to do it. I have had so much support on this websight that I really had to sign up with Autumn's mentor group. I feel like we do have some similarities for sure and you really are an inspiration, Autumn. Plus, all us moms must stick together. I would love to do my first 1/2 Ironman in the summer of 2008- that would be a huge goal for me. I also want to get to be a 9 minute mile runner instead of 10 mm. I can't wait for my knee to heal and get my nano ipod nike runner kit for christmas. Thanks for letting me be on this mentor team Jill and I are in the weight loss challenge together too. |

molto veloce mama 9311 | Subject: RE: Autumn's Group - FULL everyone has fantastic goals for 2007. half-marathons, half-ironmans, off road tris. sounds like an awesome season awaits. i guess i'd like to know what you all are expecting from me, so that i can (hopefully) meet your expectations. i plan on checking your logs every day or so (speaking of which, the link to jill's log in the table should end with "45146" w/o the extra '8' at the end), to encourage you and help as i can. if there are specific things you'd like to work on where i could help, such as base building, picking a training plan, setting race goals, etc., please let me know. also, would any of you be available for a chat session once a week or so? this would not be a required thing, but if there is a time we're all available, we could have a check in session each week. i can see if we can 'reserve' the chat room, or get a special 'room' for our group to use. let me know what day and time would work best for you. |

I've never been a distance person but have really gotten into biking etc since my brother said he was going to start tris. training: Playing basketball 5 days a week in the morning and I'm trying to start running as it is my weakest sport. I have no pool to swim at right now which is really tough. I'm working on learning cross country skiing to keep in shape. I am also snowboarding. Racing: I want to really step it up this year. There is a new race local to me that is their first Half Iron that I would like to do in June, kinda scary. I want to be able to race this year without feeling too much pain (from being out of shape) and work on speed the next year. Weight: I weigh around 175 right now and wouldn't mind losing about 5-10 more. I got up to 215 at one time and realized I was getting fat and started lifting to lose around 20. Tri's have gotten me down to where I'm at now. |

Pro 4578 Vancouver, BC | Subject: RE: Autumn's Group - FULL Hi Group and Welcome Sharon, I'm sorry I missed the chat last night as well. I am leaving for a vacation on Saturday and I was working really hard and really long hours the past couple of days and I didn't see the notice about the chat. Sorry. Everything will return to normal on Jan. 4th when I'm back from vacation. About the chat time, could we move it to 15-30 minutes earlier? Right now it is 5:30 for me and during this time I am usually travelling home from work. If we leave the chat at 5:30 then I won't leave work until around 6pm. So the earlier means that I can leave work earlier. Alternatively we could have it later when I am already at home, but I know that it is getting late for some. I guess I should look into getting a BT membership too as I cannot use the chatroom now. Anyways sorry I've kind of been incognito for the past couple of days, but I will get better in the New Year. Happy Holidays everyone. |
