Subject: IM Calgary?

Just got a phone call from a friend in Calgary - and let me stress that this friend knows little about triathlon, but she's supportive none-the-less. Anyhoo ... she said she just heard on the news that there's going to be an IronMan Calgary starting in 2009?

Anyone else heard this?

Edited: what makes her think I can register is way beyond me ... my training has been relegated to nothing more than pushups and squatjumps - but that's an entirely different story. ;-)

Some interesting things:
It's an Ironman 70.3, not a full Ironman distance
The bike is point-to-point, not a loop, so T1 and T2 are in different spots - this makes things a lot harder for setting up transitions as well as getting places on race morning - not only for racers but for spectators as well.

I agree, it'll be interesting, but still a good challenge I think. My parents live just blocks away from the finish so they'll have a better vantage point to watch the best part, you should sign up Jonathon, it's going to be a great race!! it might be fun to take part in a new experience, you have to try everything at least once!

Just found this info on IM.com, my goal is to reel in that Keiran Doe guy:

Ironman 70.3 Calgary will host 1,500 athletes, including multiple Ironman Champion, Lisa Bentley, past Ironman Canada Champion, Keiran Doe; local pro, Kyle Marcotte and a variety of amateur athletes ranging in age. Designed for all levels of competition, the race is anticipated to be a sold-out event. Registration for the inaugural event opens at 7:00 a.m. MST on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at www.ironmancalgary.com.
