Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am in a bit of a quandary over choosing and Ironman to do next year. I want to guarantee entry for a race but I don't think that with current supply out there you can definitely get in. So I am turning to BT family to help in my decision. (I am not able to travel to any of the sites for on site registration) Here is where i am at: 1. Sign up for Ironman Louisville for a second time. I know my chances are pretty high in getting in this as they are not accepting on site registration. (something i think all Ironmans should do...save that for another post) I think this is the safest choice but would love to do a different Ironman then this one again but will settle for a second time on this course. 2. Take my chances with Ironman Florida. My concern here is that this will be another IMLP situation where it will fill up before going to web, if it does make it to the web I have to be very lucky to be able to register. 3. Ironman Arizona - This was a race i was planning on a fallback in case I did not get into Ironman Florida. But, i have heard that after the first Ironman Arizona they had on site registration for 2009 race and will have it again after the second Ironman Arizona. Again i am worrying about it filling up before it goes online. Your feedback will help greatly in making my decision. |

The Original ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What about IM Cozumel? I decided to do IM Cozumel instead of IM FL again or trying AZ. International races don't usually fill up as quick as the ones in the States. Plus '09 will be its first year. Edited by runnergirl 2008-08-13 7:51 AM |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, obviously IMKY is the one you should probably go with if you don't want to go to onsite registration the year before. IMFL is a huge risk. You can try it online, but if you don't get in... then what? You place bets on IMAZ? And if that doesn't happen??? No IM for 2009 unless you go with Cozumel or one that is not "Ford Sponsored". If you don't want to race Kentucky again, then go ahead and take a risk on the other ones. ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think at this point just take what you can get into. I want to do IMMOO in 09, but may have to sign up for Louisville, because I have a feeling that getting into IMMOO will be very very hard to do if I am not onsite. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You could do an independent. Unless you plan to kona qualify does it really have to be ironman brand? |

Thought about Cozumel, but from where I am plane fare is atrocious. Don't think the wife will like that extra bill...LOL |

Don't think the wife will like that extra bill...LOL You might be surprised... my wife was pretty happy about being able to go somewhere where she could have a nice vacation. If you really don't think Cozumel would work, then what I would do is try FL and AZ in that order. If you don't succeed with FL, try again when AZ goes online. If neither works, start convincing your wife what a great time she'd have at an all inclusive resort in Cozumel sipping margaritas on the beach |

Thought about Cozumel, but from where I am plane fare is atrocious. Don't think the wife will like that extra bill...LOL I was surprised to find out that for me, it was pretty much the same price to fly to Cozumel as it was to AZ. And after checking out condos in Cozumel on vrbo that was cheaper than IM AZ hotels I was totally sold on Cozumel. And my fiance was super excited- he's more interested in going to Cozumel than AZ or FL since we can make it into a vacation. Good luck deciding- it seems like it's getting harder and harder to plan to do a specific IM now! I guess we gotta take what we can get |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My vote is Lou., but an alternative is to do FLA 70.3 (May 09 at disney) while training to do LP 09. Go to the awards banquet and grab a spot for LP, from what I heard they always seem to have enough (they give away 50 slots for EACH NA Ironman race) for all except FLA. Even if there are 50 people - have you noticed that you are FAST lately, you would get a spot before others!! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It is a tough situation now with all the IMs filling so fast. The risk is if you don't sign up for this one XX, can you sign up for the next one ZZZ. Who knows how it will all unfold and as we all know what happened last year doesn't really help us guess this year. I got a voucher at Lake Placid but didn't register as a later season race makes more sense for me. I'm in similar situation as you, but I'm going to IMFL and will volunteer and plan is to register even though my preference is to do IMAZ I'm not willing to take the risk. Bid deciding factor is my husbands thoughts, cost, and weather. Right now my husband would rather me do FL. I'm also considering doing 3 different independent races (Plymouth in MA would save $$$ as I can stay at home, Esprit in Montreal, or Beach to Battleship in NC). After spending close to $7K doing IMLP we may choose doing a close cheap one is the best option. I'm doing the Plymouth IM in a couple weeks as a biker in a relay so I will see what it feels like and if it is a good option for me. Not that I helped your decision but I totally get where you are at and it is frustrating.

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It will be real interesting to see what happens with Louisville this year. I have seen a ton of times on here and on ST that people are saying "oh sign up for Lou, because Moo will sell out if not on site" Will this make Louisville and instant online sellout? All the race reports I have seen and heard have been nothing but rave reviews for the town, course (even the swim in the Ohio) and affordable accomodations. Then comes Moo from which most will guess that it will sell out on site and Florida is trending that way too. So does that make Arizona and instant sell out as well because I think 600 or so have already signed up at Spring 08 race and then all the Nov peeps will be grabbing slots??? Who knows, I guess we'll all find out together. I am in the same boat as you though. I am in for IM AZ Nov but want to do a different one next year. Sorry I am no help. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a hard time beleiving Louisville will sell it same day this year. Didn't it take like 2 months last year? Maybe in the future it will sell out same day, but I am doubtful about this year (just my opinion). I think the problemm (or opportuniy depending on how you look at it) for Louisville is that Wisconsin and Florida are both more attractive locations and climate than Louisville, so people tend to try to get into those first and then use Louisville as a fallback. Until the others start selling out onsite or within minutes of becoming available online, I think Louisville will continue to take longer to fill up. Having said that, with the likelyhood that Florida and Wisconsin could join LP as on-site sell-out destinations, this could be the last year that Louisville does not sell out in 1 day. |
