Subject: Gas

The lack of gasoline is so frustrating!  Anyone else having problems?  I already ran out of gas once trying to find a station.  Now I am low again.  I haven't left my house for any bike or run workout this week.  Anyone else changed their workout patterns for fear of needing gas and finding none?

I have an appointment in Buckhead at 1:00 today (I'm in Alpharetta).  I am thinking about rescheduling.

I went to an online link to gas stations that have gas, but when I got to one of the stations on the list, they were out.  Does anyone know of a list of stations that have gas (and is updated fairly regualrly)?

Thanks!

Andi

honestly, i haven't had any issues. there are 4 gas stations between my house and the interstate and at least one of them has gas all the time. Usually with no wait (well, if the QT has gas, there's usually a wait, but the other 3 stations never have a wait).

I think the north side is far more panic-y than the south side.

Sorry, I'm no help. Could you bike to Marta and take Marta?

I haven't filled up when I didn't need it (i.e. topping off my tank at every opportunity).  I know many have which is causing problems.  I have been to 10 gas stations today, no gas.  Unfortunately marta doesn't come near me, or I really would use it.  At this point I don't think I could drive to the train and make it.  Ugh.  Well, at least someone has gas.

There are at least 3 that have had gas the entire time in Brookhaven.  (Just east of Buckhead).  The stretch from the North Druid Hills off of 85 to Buford Hwy has 2 stations and if you make a right onto Buford Hwy, there is a QT less than a mile up the road.

I haven't had any issues getting gas.  The funny thing is that as I was driving up Peachtree towards Ashford Dunwoody I saw a line of people waiting to get gas (it was about 20 cars deep).  Ironically, I had just passed two stations with no wait and gas.

Hmmm... maybe the reason we have no gas up north is that we use more by driving downtown/midtown/buckhead everyday for commutes.   That and we panic like fools. (although not me)  Okay, I just called a QT in North doraville and they have gas and I may make it there.  On fumes.  And then I'm moving.  Just kidding.

I haven't had to wait yet- filled up MON morning.  But I've seen lots of lines and stations that were out.  Also heard my boss say that he had a hard time finding gas near our office of Howell Mill.
I'm in Woodstock and I work in Midtown...if I hadn't called in sick on Tuesday and 'saved' a days worth of gas, I'd need some today I bet.  Kraig waited in line an hour last night to get some off Hwy 92.  This is just stupid...why is it worse in the north suburbs...maybe people drive more up here since commutes would be longer.

The QT at the corner of 92 and Crabapple Road in Roswell has had gas continuously this week, but the lines are long.  However, they also have employees outside on traffic control duty.  My husband had to wait there for awhile yesterday but said it moved relatively quickly.

ETA:  Oops!  I forgot to actually respond to the question posed in the OP about workout patterns .  Personally, it hasn't affected me much since I've been home with a sick child all week.  However, working in the fitness industry, I can tell you that participation in group ex classes and the overall number of "swipes" (how many people check in at the desk at a gym) has decreased from the norm quite a bit at some of our locations this week and we are attributing it to the gas situation.

The shortages a spotty. I suspest that gas stations near interstate exits are getting more gas because of easy access and higher volume. Try near one of the interstates. Has anyone else noticed this?

Also, I've been riding my bike to work. (I live 3 miles away) I think things should ease in the next week. Already, things are easing where I live (little five points).

Andi - I know around where you live and if you go for gas in the mornings after the tankers fill the stations there is no problem.  You mention above that you don't fill up if you don't need it - well everyone else is so you may need to start doing that if you want gas.  I have been doing it cause I can't afford to run out of gas.  Unfortunately sometimes we have to play by others rules.............

I was actually hoping that it would get so bad that everyone would start riding their bikes.  I've got a chariot.  I can do everything I have to do by biking (to preschool, grocery store, etc.).  As Reality Bikes likes to say:

GAS SUCKS!

No, that would be awful for me.  I have a 60 mile commute.  I'd love to ride that, but I'd be dead in a second with all of the cement trucks in the area I work in.  Maybe they  could just cancel work altogether.

Even though Ninja told me Tue night to go get gas (I never listen to her anyway), yesterday when I had to get some one my way, I posed 3-4 stations that had none. I finally found a QT in Roswell and waited for about 15 mins.

The only change is I'll do my rides from now on from my house. It helps that I'm all I have left is a 65 mile ride which I have a great course for that.
