is in 16 days. Who's in? Who's fired up? Who plans on qualifying for AG nationals?

FWIW, there's an ongoing thread here.

Anyhoo...

My wife and I are both in for the Oly.  (Second year for it for both of us.)

As far as qualifying goes, it's on my mind.  Based on last year's results, I realistically will need to take 5-6 minutes off my time from last year (which is still my Oly PR).  I was MOP in my AG and top 33% qualify.  I'm on a much better bike this time and will be right at the start of my IM taper, so that much improvement is not unrealistic.  I bet the fact that it is a qualifier this year will attract a somewhat bigger field than last year, though, so I'm not betting on qualifying.

I know, just thought this race deserved a thread of its very own

Qualifying for nationals is probably an unrealistic goal for me, for several reasons (1st olympic distance race, training volume over the last few months has been lower than I would have liked, and as you said, the field will likely be more competitive than a non-qualifying race). That said, I placed in the top 33% of my AG in my last sprint (barely), so I'm still loosely grasping the sliver of hope.

I had an AG podium finish in my last Oly (3rd, ~top 20%), so I should be optimistic about qualifying...but this will be a much stronger field than the last one was, so I'm treating it as a longshot at best.

I'll be there for the Oly.  It will likely be the last event of the season for me, as my wife's due date (with our third) is about 10 days later.  I guess I'll be risking a RLE (relationship limiting event) by doing this if she goes into labor, though I'll tote a cell phone to limit that possibility.

As for AG nationals, probably not this year.  This will be my second Oly and I'm MOB material at best at this point.  Next year....

::bump::

Liz and I will be up there tomorrow afternoon for packet pickup, probably sometime around 1pm.  If anyone's around then and wants to say "Hi," I'll probably be wearing my black "LA Marathon" cap...don't know that there'll be too many of those around at registration.  I think we'll probably stop some place like the Applebee's nearby for late lunch/early dinner and would be happy to have company.

After the race Sunday, there's food and a small beer garden...another meetup possibility.  One warning:  They were about out of both food and beer when my wife finished the Oly last year (her time was 3:18, IIRC)...or at least they were starting to close down both food and beer service.

I'll be driving up with my fiancee tomorrow morning. Thinking about riding the bike course, although the route looks pretty straightforward and I understand the course is mostly flat. We'll see.

I'll watch for you at packet pickup tomorrow afternoon. I'm not sure when I'll be there, but I'm the tall, lanky guy with a farmer's tan.

This being my first oly, I don't really have a time objective, so I guess my goal will be to finish while there's still beer left.

Good luck, BTers!

Hey, hope everyone had a good race yesterday. Definitely couldn't have asked for better weather. Does anyone know if Primetime plans on posting transition times? The results page is looking pretty barebones...

They only had one timing mat position for transition...in from swim, out to run...so they can't give you any breakdown of T1/bike/T2...all they have is start/in to T1/out to run/finish.

Good race for me...PR by 7+ minutes and hit my time goal of 2:25.  But it looks at the moment like I missed qualifying for AG Nationals by all of 2.9 seconds (difference betw. my 10th place and the 9th place it appears I needed for my AG).

That's awesome- congrats on the PR! I was nowhere close to qualifying for AG Nationals, but I managed my first sub-2:00/100m swim in a race and posted a 10k PR, (even though I ended up in the bottom 33% of my AG!) I too know the taste of bittersweet victory. There were some seriously fast folks out there yesterday.

By the way, I think I may have seen you, but I wasn't sure. Black tri top? Wife wearing a Team Disney tri top?

Yup, that was us.

The swim, unfortunately, I think was short.  I was kind of stoked to see I put up my first sub 1:30/100 clocking, but I can't believe that, given I've never been below about 1:37 before.  A couple other people felt the course was short and I think it had to be.  Pretty hard to believe I actually was at 1:29/100, but still only finished 181 out of 422 on the swim.  Pretty unlikely.
