In my quest to become more aerodynamic on the bike, I'm going to try putting tape on my eyebrows and taping my ears back.  What kind of gains can I expect to see?

JeepFleeb - 2009-06-19 12:55 PM What color tape?  If you can find red it typically gains 1-2mph more than your usual black electrical tape.

I'll try that and report back.  Thanks!

Just keep your swim cap on during the bike leg. That's what I do. I have a special red one if my wave color is slower.

Not a bad idea, I actually might carry this over onto the run as well. Swimcap all the way through.

How about using saran wrap to bind upper arms to your torso.... good for another 1-2 mph

Tape can get costly. Just shave your eyebrows and eyelashes off to save time. Be sure to post some pictures!

Should we lop off the ears as well, Mr. Van Gogh?

Zipp makes some dimpled ear covers that are proven to provide NEGATIVE drag at all yaw angles.  Much better than tape!

Assuming I only see 1/2 mph gains on each of these tips/tricks we're close to 3 mph gain assuming everything I use is color red that's another 1 mph.

In the last 45 minutes I have gotten 4 mph faster!

Instead of doing the Van Gaugh style ear mod, I would recommend either the Zipp covers or having them properly sergically removed, it would probably heal better and you could easily add red ear plugs afterwards to cover the holes that are left.

On a slightly different note, I was thinking of drinking a bunch of beer and getting a beer gut and resting it on my stem, this should provide a "nacell" affect that should be worth something for flat rides (probably not so good for climbing).

I would agree with just shaving everything else.  What about getting a fake tan or tan gels, that extra "red" should help especially with all of the surface area.
