Has anyone ever participated in this clinic?  What were your impressions of it?  Worth the money?

Ken, I took this clinic a couple years ago and have been video taped.  The clinic teaches the fundamentals of freestyle swimming - balance in the water is a big component of the clinic.  Balance means swimming on top of the water.  Next time you're at Master's, notice how many people swim with their legs dangling a foot or two below the surface.  That's a lot of drag.

I highly recommend video taping. You'll be amazed at what you can learn from watching yourself swim.  You think you're doing things right; then see the video and think "Gawd, that's what I look like?"

(As you probably know, I'm a coach for Triple Threat.  I will be helping Kristen with the August 10th clinic.)

I'm biting the bullet and pulling the trigger on this.  If I can get Active.com to agree with me.

If Kristen's involved, it will be worth it.

It's not a video of Kristen swimming, running or doing anything... it's a video of you

Then it's not worth as much, but it's still good.

Attended the clinic last night.  Coaches - Kristen & Tommy (zia_cyclist)

Swam before the clinic for the video taping.
During the clinic, we went over the foundations of swimming.
1.  breathing
2.  position
3.  rotation

(I think these were the three things.)  Coach Kristen will be sending her outline out soon.

Some simple things, but things I have been doing wrong this entire time.
I now have to spend a large amount of time in the pool breaking the habits I've formed and rebuilding new ones.

Video tape review after the clinic.  I did not realize I looked that bad.  Ignorance is truly bliss but now I have a whole list of things to work on.  I over rotate to the point that the elbow of my recovery arm is touching the water on the other side.  I'm practically on my back.

My kick is bad.
My elbow position is not good.
I don't activate my hand/wrist during the catch phase.
I breathe at the wrong time which causes me to over rotate in order to breath.

I'm amazed she didn't throw the camera down to jump in and save me from drowning!

Definitely worth the money and I would not hesitate to recommend this.

In short, Ken needs to be fitted with a gyroscope and some smart bomb technology to keep him in line.

Yes.  Know where I can get that upgrade at a reasonable price?  I can hear the Apollo 13 astronauts in my head, "he's getting close to gymbal lock"!

I don't know, I think it sounds like he needs a snorkel so he can breathe without doing the backstroke!

I tell everyone who talks about starting tri's, that getting a swim coach from day 1 is the best money they can spend. It's a lot harder to un-learn back technique that it is to learn it the right way the first time.
