Subject: Hi, I'm Dan and I'm a triathlete

I have been a triathlete about 3 months now. I told myself I could control it in the beginning, but pretty soon, I was addicted. I snuck training in when i told my wife I was out at the bar...I always took another set of clothes to cover up that embarassing work-out smell..ate breath mints so my breath wouldnt smell of Gatorade..and i always told myself I could quit anytime I wanted. I am so glad I have found this group and can share stories with people that understand me. And I always wonder..WWMD?   What Would Macca Do?

Seriously...48 y/o guy from Bloomington Indiana. Did my first tri 10/02/11 at Tri the Illini Tri and had a BLAST! And now i am looking for my next challenge! HIM next year???hmmmmmmm.....

Dan, you are gonna have to come clean at some point. People will begin noticing. Like just the other night my wife asked what was wrong with my legs. "Uh, ...um....I fell down the stairs and uh.... it's just swollen." "Don't lie to me, your quads are huge." Finally I broke down and admitted that I have been biking behind her back. It was a tough night but I think our marriage is stronger because of it.

My advise?

Don't hide the workouts. Just hide the new gear. Wink

Welcome aboard.

The worst was when i couldnt get the permanent marker number off my calf...I almost blew it..I just told her it was so that they could keep track of all the people in the bar crawl i did...

Looking at HIM in July 2012 in Muncie Indiana....its going to be an interesting winter!

Every time I get home early from work and train without my girlfriend she accuses me of "sneaking in" work outs. haha. But then when she gets home she wants to train so I'll do another work out so it all works out in getting a brick work out in.

but welcome to the triathlon world! Tons of fun and lots of money to be spent!!! Good to hear you enjoyed your Tri, HIM is definitely possible by next year. Keep training and eventually...you're gonna have to just tell the wifey you've been working out to train for a HIM. Best of luck with everything!

Ha Ha...nice intro - welcome, though you're already way ahead of me!  I'm very much a rookie and my first race won't be until next year.  I'm off now to sneak in 90 minutes or so on the trail while my wife looks the other way.

Cheers!

James

Welcome Dan. jump in and register for the HIM. I did that after my first sprint and once signed up there was no turning back! Unfortunately back surgery kind of screwed my first real tri season, but I'll be back better next year! Looking forward to some winter training again.

Hi Dan, admitting that you have a problem is the first step on the road to recovery. Failing that, SIS makes for a great recovery as well!

I'm sorry to hear that Dan, and unfortunately at this time there is no cure. Let me know if you find one. I have to go now, my family thinks I'm on facebook.
