Subject: should I be concerned?

I went skiing yesterday and ate it pretty hard a few times.  Nothing that presented itself to me as capable of causing major injury, but I did slide down some hills head first on my back.

Anyway, this morning I wake up and my neck is hurting like a bitch.  It's the muscles around my neck all the way up to the base of my skull.  I have perfect freedom of movement, it just hurts like crazy.  It's a constant ache with a somewhat sharp pain when I turn my head to the right.

Should I go to the ER and get this xrayed or does it just sound like a pulled muscle?

I'm off to swim now, so I guess I'll see how it feels after that.

Just the muscule, if you are a wuss go to the hospital, get it checked out and leave the slopes for real skiers.

Slopes would be so much less crowded if everyone heeded my adivise.

But on a serious note, I've had it many times before.

Prevention: Stop turning around on the chairlift to admire the view.

Cure: Go ***** complain to your massuse

shut it, I still swam.  Were you born a real skier? Wink

My swim actually loosened me up a little.  The pain is actually my entire left shoulder blade and up my neck.  I don't need no stinkin massuse, but I had a friend that fractured his neck with a similar fall on a mountain bike.  He didn't get it checkout out until it didn't stop hurting a week later and had to wear a brace for a long as time.  I'd feel really *** stupid running my marathon in a neck brace, so I didn't want to mess around with it.  Hell I'm already laid up with my shin splints.... I don't need any more injury.

Well as a matter of fact...That will happen on Monday when I make my first pilgrimage out west.

But I have been on skis since the age of two.

There's a joke in all of this about sore neck muscles but it would probably get this thread pulled so I won't make it.

How are you gonna do an Ironman if a simple task like sliding down a hill imobilizes you?  Can you sue the ski area for "punitive damages?"  Maybe get a new bike out of the deal.  Claim the hill wasn't groomed properly, causing you undue duress!

haha no I can't sue, but the slope groom job on the slope was absolute shit.

I'm all better now.  I was going downhill at a fairly good clip when I took a turn and my ski caught an edge.  When I fell I landed on my left shoulder and slid down the hill head first on my back.  I think if I go down at that speed on the bike I'll have bigger problems then a sore neck.

A real skier doesn't need a groomed slope. Moguls and backcountry are the shizzle (not even sure if its the right context of the word, but whatever).

yea well like I said, first time in 5 years on skis.  And they were smaller then moguls, more like a field of fist sized chunks of ice
