Hi! Signed up last week and have my training plan charted out. I’ve been there to spectate and just wondered if they allow bicycles on 117 for pre-running the course. Seems like a heavily traveled road. I’d like to go up for a training weekend in July and ride/run the courses. This will be my first full.

I am not sure about the roads on the course. It would be great if you have the opportunity to actually train on the course before the race. Hope your training is going well! :-) It looks like it will be a great race.

I'm pretty sure that the road is open even though it looks like an interstate where you exit for the village. Just looking for confirmation. It is such a beautiful area. I went up in 2015 to watch a training partner race. I kick myself because I was ready at that time to do it but just couldn't for personal reasons. Now it's time and the only thing stopping me is weekend obligations. A couple one hour workouts a day is easy to find but a six hour block can be more difficult. I was hesitant to sign up so late but looking at some training plans I realized that my base is right where it should be. I'm in that "maintain marathon fitness" mode but I have to cut back to ramp up my bike and swim which have been neglected since last Fall. The excitement and desire to over-train has to be held back to rest properly and avoid early injuries. The best part is the training!

Yes you can ride the 117. It's a highway but the shoulder is quite wide.

Have lake conditions ever been warm enough to not be wetsuit legal? I have a full wetsuit but wondered if I should be considering a sleeveless or swim skin. Thoughts?

I don't think it's happened in the last 5 years or so. I think it got close once.

I raced it last year and would be happy to answer any questions anyone has about the course, area, etc. As an athlete the experience was nothing short of amazing and it was made even better by the fact that my family had an amazing time as well. One suggestion, breathe to the right during the swim! Watching the sun rise over the ski hill is something that I will never forget. Also, hit up the coffee bar during the practice swim! Truly a unique experience.

I am getting excited! I will be racing with my boyfriend and his sister. It will be my boyfriend's sister's first full ironman. It will be great to experience this with her.
