I'm in KS this week and prediction for the low tomorrow of -6 with wind gusts resulting in -25. High for tomorrow 9 to 11 degrees depending on who is doing the forecast.

In Huntsville they closed everything today based on the predictions yesterday that we'd get 1.5 to 2" of snow. They closed the schools and RSA and lots of businesses. We got noting but cold. Typical in Alabama.....forecast for flurries and you won't find bread or milk for 100 miles.

So how cold is it in your neck o' the woods?

I know this is weather and not climate but it sure seems to undercut the global warming narrative when it's 20 below and record low temps being broken all over the country.

Post after post on FB "reminding" people to bring their pets inside, you don't want to see what will happen if your pets stay outside, all very dramatic with photos of tiny puppies all curled up in a ball with icicles hanging off of them. In my head I'm thinking WTH? There are wild animals living their lives outside. Am I going to wake up surrounded by dead squirrels, rabbits, coyotes etc?

Last night I open the garage to come home from work and my outdoor/garage lounging cat runs outside. He was out all night and I'm pacing around all night checking the back door (where he usually shows up in the morning). No cat. I'm fretting, the cat is going to be dead and frozen and my kids are going to freak out. 8:00 this morning there he is stretching and licking himself at the back door waiting for me to let him in like he doesn't have a care in the world just like every other day. Now I've trapped him in the house because heaven forbid I let an animal that is wearing a fur coat three times the size of his body actually go outside in the cold or I'm the jerk of the century.

My dog, on the other hand, chases rabbits on her walk every single morning but did not get a walk this morning because it's too cold. Guess what is sleeping peacefully curled up in a little ball (with no icicles hanging from it) in our front yard? A rabbit. So the dog is whining and crying at the window all day, the cat is whining because I won't let it in garage, and we have a kitten that wants to play with two animals who really don't think she is very entertaining all trapped in the house together.

I'm so done with winter. I'm going to the gym and getting out of this circus.

When my wife left the house last night to put a blanket on her horse I didn't say a word........out loud.

I suppose I have mellowed with age.

I read somewhere that extreme cold kills 20x more people than extreme heat and that we should be more worried about global cooling than about global warming.

Interesting. I tend to agree. When it's 10 below it hard to grow corn....and when you dive into the pool you crack your head on the ice.

RE the horse blanket. My wife has 3 horses but only puts a blanket on one of them. He is very old and getting skinny. She also has to feed him separately with special food that helps him generate more heat.

We have 2 goldens that sleep in the garage....she puts a blanket on them......I think it just irritates the dogs. But who knows, maybe they like the blankets when they sleep.
