Well I have always wanted to compete in a triathalon but for years just kept sitting on the couch saying, someday. Someday is going to be now. I started training this morning and look forward to the journey of getting myself back in shape and on the course. Any and all help will definetly be appreciated.

Welcome to a fellow washingtonian.

Indeed, there is no time like the present.

Good luck!

Hi Bruce, welcome to BT. Bice run, keep it up!

Do you have a training plan? It's just about the best motivator there is to stay on track.

Hi Bruce! Welcome from another fellow Washingtonian. I'm in the "south end" (though not as far south as Vancouver) -- Puyallup, to be exact. I've got one more race left in my "season" (Flowing Lake on 9/15).

Stay around, cruise through the fora (or is it "forums"?), and beware of the abyss that is known as the Thread About Nothing (otherwise known as TAN in the Cup of Joe forum).

I am not far from you at all. I currently live in Parkland near PLU. I plan on doing most of my swimming and biking for awhile at the YMCA in Lakewood. Do you know of any good trails locally to run. Prefrably something not paved.

I chose the 22 week sprint program designed by michael pate. I am further along than the program recommends for the swim portion but the run I think fits at this time as I have been on the couch for awhile. Hopefully it will continue to motivate me week in and week out.

I run on a series of trails on the Fredrickson Boeing plant... Not inside the guard gate, though it IS Boeing property, and if you're not an employee, they can have you removed. So...  My wife used to live in Midland, though I never did much in the way of running out there. I know there HAS to be some trails out that way, given the wooded areas. Maybe Spanaway Lake park? There may be some in Pt Defiance as well, though I'm not all that familiar with the park itself.

Check with the local running shops (one on the Tacoma waterfront, and also at Tacoma Mall).

Oh! Stielacoom park! Lots of trails out there. They do a number of cyclocross races this time of year (September through November).

Hope that helps.

Hey Bruce,

I am from Dupont and just about to get going on training for my first Tri. Had a screwed up week due to some last minute night shifts otherwise would be started, but no more excuses. Maybe we can hook up and go for a ride sometime. I have heard that there is a tri group that meets here in Dupont by the farelles for a ride.

Darin,
That sounds like a great idea. I have to get a bike first though. Currently my all of my biking is done at the gym on the spin bikes. I want to do some research and find the best bike for me instead of just running out and getting a bike i'm not going to want to ride in six months. Any suggestions on where to go and look for bikes.

Bruce

The guys at Bike Teck where pretty nice and helpful as well as the guys at Rainer Cycle. I am currently riding a mountain bike and looking for my first road bike. Probably won't be till Christmas before I can afford one though. I haven't actually been to Rainer Cycle but talked with them on the phone and they actually do bike fits there. Seems that the Trek 1500 is going out and they are replacing with 2 series. Better frame but lower end group. Any way ya stay in touch and we can get together sometime.
