Subject: question bout the tummy fat
Alright im sure im not the only one that has this problem and i need some help.   It seems that i have a ring of fat right around my belly area taht i CANNOT get rid of, no matter how many situp or crunches, leg lifts, healthy eating i do, i cant get rid of it, all i do is strengthen the muscles underneath but the same fat is still there, my upper abs get nice and tone while my lower ones are impossible...any help to this situation would be wonderful, id love it if i could get my torso to go straight down instead of there being a lump in the middle haha.

Sorry to say that spot reduction just isn't something that is doable.  My suggestion (part tongue in check, part serious) would be lipo.

haha lipo is quite extreme and its not a big enough portion of fat to even consider that...its like theres a 6 pack, but its hiding in the fridge :P

Sorry but have to Ditto the spot reduction not working.  The only things that will likely work are either a further reduction in overall bodyfat (of which the stubborn pockets will be the last to go IME), or as maggy mentioned, some sort of surgical intervention.

While I haven't tried it diligently I know of some people who really like the Preven Flat Belly diet which is based on eating mufas or monounsaturated fats at every meal.  You might give it a try since it's not really going to hurt.  Otherwise, yeah, spot reducing fat with certain exercises isn't possible, much to my dismay.

For most men this the most stubborn areas of bodyfat to remove along with lower back, mostly because it is the last area to get reduced when you reduce your overall bodyfat, does not matter how many crunches you do, that layer of bodyfat is the last to go and the most difficult to get rid of. First off you should be doing some sort of resistance training, this will accelerate bodyfat loss in addition to your regular tri training. I like to keep it simple,pullups-pushups-jumpsquats-crunches, two to three times a week. Eat healthy;lean protien, complex carbs, healthy fat. Eat small portions every three hours and no carbs at all after 6pm. I just recently read The Eat Clean Diet, I recommend it highly by Tosca Reno. This book will go above and beyond what I suggested. What I suggested above has worked for me many times.

i'm with you on this Army FF2006

i've lost about 15 pounds since June, but i still have the belly fat.   it definitely has trimmed up, but it's still there.

my wife and i both just comitted to starting some weight training and bought some nice home fitness equipment to use.   i'm gonna start using that and really concentrate more on weight training for the Tri off season.   i'm hoping that will help get rid of more of the belly flab.

I agree with Nevergivin on this one. Losing that belly fat is going to be almost all in nutrition. Strength training and tri training definitely help, but eeking that last little bit out is going to be eating a VERY clean diet, and will take some time to get rid of. Hope that helps, and good luck!

You may want to track your eating habits. There are a number of web sites (including BT!) that provide web-based tracking of your nutritional intake as well as your caloric expenditure.  Keeping a close on the calories in vs calories out may be what it takes to get your body to let go of that stubborn last bit of tire.

it is the old adage

muscles are made in the gym

abs are made in the kitchen

check your diet for the final homestretch on this b/c all you are doing is building muscle under the fat
