Subject: I'm NEVER full - Why?!?!
This has been stirring my curiosity for some time now.  I am wondering if this is just a normal thing of if it is a problem.  I am 22 yrs old, about 5'10-5'11 and weight around 153 lbs.  I usually have at least 1 workout a day, sometimes 2 or 3 but like I spend just about all in between time eating.  I have heard if you eat a huge breakfast it can help curb your appetite throughout the day, but I feel like this doesn't work for me.  I can eat a huge meal and be ready to eat another huge meal about 30 min. to an hour later.  This is especially more pronounced on days when I have 2 or 3 workouts.  On these days I probably easily eat in the 3-4K calorie range.  I am not gaining weight, but I am not really losing weight either.  I know this probably correlates in some way with the amount I train but should I be concerned at all?

Tape worm?

Seriously...if you are working out that much, you must be burning an absolute s**t-load of calories.  Look at Michael Phelps eating 12,000 calories a day. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,403803,00.html

I'm not saying that you are burning that much, but you are hungry because you are burning a ton of calories.

Try to eat what this Clyde eats in a day...that will fill you!

I'd also look at your balance of calories.  Are you getting enough protein and healthy fats?  They both play a huge part in satiation.

agreed. more HEALTHY fat would help to fill you up as well as a little extra protein.
If your working out that much you need to be eating to compensate for that.
also, drink more water, sometimes we think we are hungry but it is our body telling us we are dehydrated, drink about 10-20 oz and wait 20 minutes, if your still hungry then eat something.
You must always compensate for what your burning, and if your not losing or gaining it sounds like you are in a maintence zone which is fine, just take in a little more healthy fat and protein.

If you want you could also post your daily diet and that may help us analyze why your so hungry all the time.

You probably need to eat a lot of calories if you're working out that much . . . but I also have another thought: blood sugar problems? I don't have an official blood sugar problem, but I know that if I eat carbs mostly, then about 10 minutes later (no matter how much I ate), I feel so hungry that I want to throw up. This has happened to me my entire life. My brother and mom, too. Do you eat foods with a low or high glycemic index?

I'm pretty watchful about what I eat, I just eat A LOT of it.  For breakfast I usually have a bowl of cereal, some oatmeal, a banana, and whatever else I can grab.  For lunch it's usually a ton of pasta (usually wheat) with pesto or red sauce.  For Dinner I pretty much always eat fish with a salad and some other veggies with a glass of soymilk.  Of course in between these meals and workouts, depending on how hungry I am, I will snack on peanuts or almonds, fruit, protein shakes, granola bars (love those) or more entire meals all together!!

Well, I know that pasta (no matter how healthy it is) ALWAYS makes me starve to death because it's high on the glycemic index and makes your blood sugar high and then it plummets. I would cut out the cereal and pasta and see if you're better. Just a thought.

Your breakfast and lunch are both very carb heavy with very little protein.  Maybe add some lean protein to your lunch at least.   Maybe some nuts with that cereal?

I put a scoop of protein powder on my cereal, this seems to help.

Eat eggs, tuna, ham, chicken or other "healthy" sort of meats and proteins throughout the day with your pasta, sandwiches etc, this should keep you a little bit fuller.

I paid $80 for a nutritionist to look over my diet after I started training, it was one of the best investments that I made in triathlon so far, because I typically spend lots of money on food.

If you're never full, try a protein drink with one of your meals. I used to frequently eat about 1/3 lb of pasta with marinara sauce for lunch or dinner, along with water or milk. The first time I had a protein drink with the pasta (2 scoops protein powder, 16 oz. milk), I was so overly full that I seriously thought for a while that my lunch might make a reappearance.

As an above poster said, I watch what I eat, but I don't really monitor amounts. I figure that overeating on healthy foods is better than undereating on McDonald's.

I am OCD to the highest level on watching what I eat. The only day I'll allow myself to "indulge" is on race day. Other than that, I've had one day where I ate poorly. I was at the tail end of my highest volume week I'd ever had, and I must have consumed 3000 calories of "healthy" food and didn't get full. I took the plunge, ordered a pizza and devoured the whole thing. And I felt AMAZING after finishing it. I think that was the only way my body could replenish all the calories I'd burned over the week.

I am trying to lose weight so I am hungry all of the time too.  very uncomfortable feeling.  tried everything, nutritionists, etc.  Nothing has worked.  My MD says its a normal feeling so I just try and deal with it.  For you at 5'10" 153 is pretty lean, so just each more.  You're young and working out liek a maniac so do it while you can.  Just try to be healthy about it, lots of fish and lean meat and veggies.  Nothing wrong with eating like 10 pounds of vegetables if that fills you up.

X100 on the protein.  I would suggest finding a good protein supplement and ad in some healthy fats, they make you feel full and satisfied.  I take a dose of Fish Oil with 3 of my meals each day and it seems to curb my appetite some.

From what I have read... besides the fact that you are a calorie burning machine with that workout intensity, there is something in your diet causing spikes in your insulin levels, whih make you hungry when your insulin drops.
