Subject: COMPLETED FIRST TRI TODAY! WHAT I LEARNEDCompleted the Escape to Miami Sprint today. So the day went like this: First off, the beam on my softride failed a few weeks ago and I couldn't get the seat within 12cm of proper height so I knew I was little screwed on the bike before I even started. Don't do that. Borrow if you have to, but make sure it fits. Two minutes after the start, someone somehow knocks my timing chip off my ankle and I in a moment of genius decide to turn around and dive for it. . . When I decide to forget it, I'm trapped in between three "larger" german women that are all friends and don't want to leave each other. So, I was basically stuck between them until I literally dove beneath one to get out. Screw the chip, have a chrono just in case and start outside of the pack. It may be a slightly longer distance but I'd rather have a green light to a long road than a red light to a shorter one. First transition was a joke. . . socks wouldn't go on wet feet (yes, I had a towel but it rained so EVERYTHING was wet escept the socks). Rode the bike as best I could even though in aero position knees were bouncing off chest and seat was somewhere in my liver. Don't rush transition and start to think about what you're going to do as you leave the water. Run was awesome except for when I decided to splash some cold water over my head and it went straight in my socks making my feet feel like anchors. Um, don't do that. Other than that, it was AWESOME and I am hooked. Can't wait to get the 61cm P2C and train for an olympic. Time was 92 minutes. |
