I've been using "The Woman Triathlete" by Gandolfo but that may not be the best selection for you

I recommend Breakthrough Triathlon Training By Brad Kearns and the Triathlete's Training Bible By Joe Friel.  I think Kearns is better to read first.

I think it depends what level you're at, and what you're looking for from the book.

For a beginner, I think 'triathlon training in four hours a week' by Eric Harr is absolutely superb. Not only does it cover training, but it is also very inspirational.

I think Joe Friel's 'The Triathlete's Training Bible' is definitely aimed at more experienced triathletes, who have maybe done a season or two, and are now looking to take their performance to the next level.

Agreed. This book is what got me first interested in triathlon. It also got me seriously thinking that I might be able to complete one despite having been a smoker and very unathletic for most of my life.

Daniels' Running Formula

Any runner or triathlete that doesn't have this book in their library is an idiot (yes, this is the sarcasm font but I still believe this)

X3 got me through my first Tri and a super sprint.

If you want The Triathlete's Training Bible, I'll give you a great deal on mine. IMHO, I think it makes things incredibly overcomplicated. Yes, I understand the periodization principles, ways of judging effort, etc. and I they must work well as so many subscribe to them. But, setting up your own plan and sticking to it is just too cumbersome.

The Matt Fitzgerald book was much easier to follow as it has a ton of specific plans for all race distances and levels. http://www.amazon.com/Triathlete-Magazines-Essential-Week-Training/...

Love this book!! I'm trying though to work through the Training Bible and I have to say that I am learning... but while I'm learning, I'm doing what Matt's book is telling me to do!

x2.  The Brad Kearns book gives you more of the philosophy of training and is very readable.  My favorite refernce in the book was to Lily Tomlins' famous quote: "The problem with winning the rat race is that your still a rat."  Read Kearns first becuase Friel is pretty intimidating.  I also liked Sally Edward's "Introduction to Triathlon"... subscriptions to Triathlete and Runner's Word are good too.

Another great easy short read that will debunk some of the common training myths:
