For example there are great little local lunch places all around but the Panera Bread is always full. I think a lot of this comes from the fact that there are so many non-natives in Florida. Not me. I'm one of those people who go out of their way to look for the little Mom and Pop shop. I've been staying with my parents for a week and all they talk about is Kuco's, the local Mexican place, or Cracker Barrel. I'm not impressed with either one, and can't wait to get back to my Taqueria El Sombrero, where no one speaks much English, but the burritos are to die for. Although, I guess you could say that's a chain restaurant too. I go to El Sombrero #2. I used to go to #1, but I moved two blocks from #2. Not to say I don't go into chain stores at all, but I avoid it as much as I can. It always makes me laugh to see people lined up around the block to go into Taco Bell, when for the same amount of money, they could go into the little taqueria across the street and get something that was actually cooked from scratch right there on the premises, not in a factory someplace else a year ago and frozen. Blech. |
