I just found out there is a Chipolte moving into my neighborhood. I am pissed because it will be virtually across the street from my favorite local burrito place that I always go to. Unfortunaly this probobly means the end for TQs because they do not have the unlimited pockets to stay open with a Chipolte across the street. Just another incident of corporate america taking over the little man for a duller, blander, uniform existance. Damn the man.

it will only close the place if they offer a better product. If your small burrito place has good burritos and the better taste is worth the bigger price, then they will stay open. If Chipotle has better food for a better price, then of course the small place will close. Just because it's corperate doesn't mean it's absolute crap. They don't force people to eat there.

Well, this is a great excuse to go to TQ's this weekend. Show local support!

Haley did not enjoy her veggie burrito at TQ's, btw.

Normally I would agree but it seems like people would rather eat somewhere they see a commercial for than try someplace that has been there 50 years. For example there are great little local lunch places all around but the Panera Bread is always full. I think a lot of this comes from the fact that there are so many non-natives in Florida.

No I did not. I did like the salsa though. I should have gotten a chicken burrito I guess. The beans and rice were excellent, and I do enjoy local joints like that. Hope Chipotle doesn't plow them under.

Not me.  I'm one of those people who go out of their way to look for the little Mom and Pop shop.  I've been staying with my parents for a week and all they talk about is Kuco's, the local Mexican place, or Cracker Barrel.  I'm not impressed with either one, and can't wait to get back to my Taqueria El Sombrero, where no one speaks  much English, but the burritos are to die for.  Although, I guess you could say that's a chain restaurant too.  I go to El Sombrero #2.  I used to go to #1, but I moved two blocks from #2.

Not to say I don't go into chain stores at all, but I avoid it as much as I can.  It always makes me laugh to see people lined up around the block to go into Taco Bell, when for the same amount of money, they could go into the little taqueria across the street and get something that was actually cooked from scratch right there on the premises, not in a factory someplace else a year ago and frozen.  Blech.

ooooo ... non-native here, but that's been the best part about moving to Florida!  So many great 'holes-in-the-wall' to discover so that during 'season' you can go out and enjoy yourself! Hmmm .... I see Senior Turrito's on the horizon, or maybe that great greek place ...
