Did anyone see the pilot?  Thoughts?

I can see a lot of potential.  I think the pilot/pilot+1 , was a solid introduction, although a little scattered.  Perhaps it was just too much introduction of characters / plots. Depending on the path they opt to follow, I am hopeful this will be a good syfy show.  I will be curious to see how they differentiate Defiance from Falling Skies.

I am also very curious for the new show coming from the makers of Battlestar Galatica called Helix, but that isn't until 2014.

I watched it, was intrigued by the commercials enough to tune in for the pilot.  I agree, was a little scattered, but think it was trying to introduce everything.  Not sure I followed how many different alien races there were or how they all got there.  But, enjoyed it enough to probably watch again. Though, not sure how much I really need more shows to watch.  Trying to cut down on those, especially now that baseball season is here.

Is that the one with the STL arch in the background?  Is it based there?  I might watch it just because of that.  I grew up there.

Yup, STL.

I hate having to give bad news...but my wife and I are watching the program.  Why is this bad news?  Because we have a bad track record of starting sci-fi shows with potential, only to jinx them into cancellation.     (for example, Invasion, FlashForward, and Zero Hour with the latter being cancelled after 2 episodes!)

I liked the pilot better than my wife did.  We're definitely gonna watch the next episode.  It's being repeated a million times this week on the Sci-Fi channel for those interested in some fun sci-fi.  The pilot was originally going to run opposite NBC's Revolution.  (sorry, the acting on Revolution is some of the worst I've ever seen...it's as if we're continuing to watch out of obligation, ya know?  Finish what ya started.     Anywhoo, Revolution was knocked for an NBC special on the Boston tragedy.

In conclusion, I agree with your assessment isyphoto.  We'll be sticking with it.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. For these sorts of shows I like to just sit back and take it in without analyzing it. Only a few things can ruin that for me which include ridiculouos plot points/twists, horrible acting, and poor directing. For the pilot the acting was great, the direction was pretty good and the plot was straight forward. I know a little more about the backstory, which I am sure will come out in future episodes, than most because I had the pleasure, and pain, of playing the Defiance Beta several times prior to the game coming out. While they are mostly independant and have a lot of differences (like location etc) the world and backstory are all the same.

I am hopeful this will turn into another, grittier, eureka or Fringe for me as I enjoyed most of those shows but it is still to early to tell. I also have a bad habit of liking shows that end up getting cancelled (terra nova, V, Defying gravity) so I hope I do not jinx it too much!

(for whoever asked, there are 8 races represented, 7 alien and 1 human. )

I liked it enough to keep watching for now.  Some of the F/X were excellent and then some were really bad.  I hope that improves as the show goes on.

I really wanted to like it.  I"m not sure that I do.  It was very derivative of other shows.  My husband and I kept saying things like "Oh, he's a mixture of Mal from Firefly and Sheriff Carter from Eureka!" throughout the whole episode.  Not much felt original to me.

For a pilot, I thought the show was pretty decent.  I think it has a lot of potential.  But did I miss something, where did St. Louis get all those mountains from?

I think the pilot re-airs tonight.  I set my DVR to record the series.  We will see, I guess?

I think they mentioned something about Terra forming before or during the war which makes since that antarctica has lovely beaches.

If it turned into Fringe, I'd be doing cartwheels.  In its best 2 season, I really felt Fringe was the best show going.  It was that good.  I miss it.

btw, I understand the main actor is real manly and all...and the madam was very attractive and all...but c'mon!  They better have good VD clinics in the future.    Yick.

All I have to say is I hate how the channel changed it's name from SciFi to SyFy... now I always read it like it rhymes with iffy.
