Buying a road bike

What are you looking for? And what size (or close)? I know some guys who own a bike shop and they are super awesome and you get lifetime free tune-ups and regular maintenance on the bike as long as you own it.

Nothing too fancy, I'm 5'8", so looking for a 53 or so. My wife has approved of $1000 that I'm allowed to spend. Must be nice to have friends that are in a benificial trade! Mine are Computer or Civil Engineers, nurses or accountants...of no use to me!

Oh, I'd never knock anyone's job, it's just that she is a palitive care nurse (not much help if I am trying to buy a bike or some new runners ) I need a friend that can get me deals on..oh, I don't know, free check ups for my dog, or better deals on Medi-cal Preventative for dogs...mind you come to think about it, I can't do much for people in my job either... other than dispose of hazardous waste or dismantle a drug lab...not much to trade there...

I have noticed sales come up through-out the year but are more common in the fall.-especially if you life in an area in which snow flies in the winter and bike riding almost comes to a stand still. Call around every so often if you are not in a rush. Also, try to find last years model as that usually takes a good 25% off the retail price. Also,there is some good used stuff out there usually at your local cycle shop.

Try Earnie 's Source for Sports (I think is there name) as they have some good deals right now.

Yeah, it definately has it's benefits!! I'll check them out tomorrow and see what they have in stock.

I'm not sure if you bought a bike yet, but Simon from Simon's Bikeshop will order in 2006 specialized road and triathlon bikes at a discount.

Also last years used Cops for Cancer road bikes are being sold off for $600 and you get a tax receipt.

I finally bought a bike, a specialized transition elite. I haven't take it out on the road yet, but it feels fast on the cheap industrial carpet in my office!

Ouch, sounds like a super deal, I picked up a Devinci Enigma. An older bike but with great components and VERY comfortable. She is so fast that I managed to do 5 laps instead of four at this weekend's race in the North Shore! Doh! Thanks for the info though, maybe I'll drug my wife and ship her off to some South American country soi can buy yet another bike!

Haz, where are you doing your riding in the Burnaby area?

I live just off of Boundary on the Vancouver side (for another month). However, we bought a place in Cloverdale, but I'd like to ride my bike before we move at least once. haha

I've lived here my whole life, but the traffic, street lights, and other obstacles, kinda put me off riding around here.

Mountain biking no prob, road biking a little scary.
