welcome arizona. many years ago i drove through arizona and i thought how i would really like to run through that desert. that area seems so inspirational for long distance running, and biking for that matter. good luck with it all.

Hi. I live in Douglas. I am sure you are doing all the triathlons in Tucson. I am actually training for the Tucson TRI (march 21) . Down here there is nobody interested in the sport. Sierra Vista there is a couple but I do not know anybody there. I am in the National GUard but I am active duty. One weekend a month I go to Phoenix for duty over there so I probably will do some tris this year over there too. I had a baby 7 months ago so I took a year off and I am back training. I recently bought me a new bike a "grand Sport 03' Raleigh. Any comments on that kind of bike? I hope it is a good one for what I am doing. I am planning on doing 9 tris this year if I do not get deployed and most of them will be in Tucson.

If you are looking for people to train with, you should jump on your internet (I assume you are already there... ;-) ) I did a search in my area and found a bunch of tri-clubs. If not, you should put up some flyers at your local Y (also check with them... most of a training club, as well!!)

But even if you don't--this is a great place to get motivated, encouraged, and laugh it off if you need to. Start logging in your daily workouts in the Triathlon Talk (some East Coaster or Over-Seas person has normally started the thread with the title of today's date looooonnnng before I even slap my alarm clock!!)

Welcome!

Dana

Welcome. I hear you on not finding people interested in Tris. Here in northwest New Mexico, we can't even find water.

ARIZONA,
Welcome!
I used to live in Phoenix, up until 3 yrs ago, so I have a couple of tips that might get you started.
I trained for a couple of tris and a marathon while I lived there.

1) Check out the running store on Glendale and 51 (The Running Room?) and see if they have info on running/tri groups.
2) There is a park where hundreds of people training for marathons/tris meet each weekend. The park is across from Squaw Peak and across Glendale Ave in that little neighborhood. I don't remember the name of it. However, I know that Team in Training, Phoenix Fit and Joints in Motion all meet there on Sat ams for longer runs around 7am.
3) The Phoenix Swim Club and ASU Masters Swim Team also have triathletes that train for tris. Both have web sites that you can check out.

Good luck with your training.
