Subject: Jittery Joe's Fall Classic Century - Athens

I just heard about this on the radio this morning.  Has anyone ever done this or planning to this year?

Ooooh ... just when I though my season was locked away something tempting such as this has to come along.

Sounds fun but I am signed up for the Silver Comet half.  I bet the ride will be nice. I think that area has some pretty places.

Doug and I have ridden the Gambler before - it used to be every year during the Criterium festivities in the spring.  You ride out to Kenny Rogers' ranch and back - hence, they called it the  "Gambler".  Very fun ride!

Of course, that was 15 yrs ago . . . things may have changed.

Let's see. I don't have to get up early to drive there because it's 10 min. from my house, and they've got to have coffee.

I'm so in!

So who's in for this?  I'm still debating as I have Halloween party the night before.  Sounds like fun though if I can get up early enough.

I was thinking about it.  It is about 15 miles from my parents house and I thought the bike swap meet would be interesting.

Just so everyone knows there will be a big bike swap after the century with many pro teams looking to unload some good deals, at least that's the word on the street. I just got this email thought I would pass it along. Details are below:

Hey folks,

Looking for a great deal on a used racing bike? Need a killer deal on a pair of carbon race wheels? Want to get some new clothing at a big discount?

Come by the 1st Annual Athens Bike Swap this Saturday! From 11am until 2pm, Tifosi Optics will be hosting the first bike swap in Athens. You have heard about the one in Denver, the one in Chicago, and the one in Charlotte—now check out the Athens version.

The three local pro teams (Jittery Joe's, Toshiba-Santos and Aaron's Women's team) will be there blowing out their new and used equipment for unheard of prices. Also, all three bike shops will have great deals as well on new and slightly used parts (Sunshine, The Hub and Georgia Cycle Sport).

New bib shorts and jerseys starting at $20. Men's and women's carbon race bikes with SRAM Red starting at $3000. SRAM Force bikes starting at $2000. Used carbon wheelsets starting at $500. TT carbon disc wheels starting at $350. Fully built time trial bikes starting at $1200 without wheels. New top-end helmets starting at $50. Racing tires for $10. Tons of parts and accessories from SRAM, Shimano, Louis Garneau, Tifosi, Specialized, Easton, Sidi, Profile Design, Zero Gravity, Thompson, Cane Creek, Hincapie and more!

Please forward this email to anyone who may be interested—lots of stuff for the recreational cyclist, racers and triathletes! You are not going to find these prices anywhere else. Bring cash—there is no way to take credit cards!

This event is taking place right after the Jittery Joe's Century Ride on Saturday—a benefit for Athens Habitat for Humanity. The Tifosi headquarters is only ½ a mile from the ride start/finish in Watkinsville, so you can go on a great ride for a great cause and then check out all the stuff at the VeloSwap!

Saturday, October 25, 2008
11am - 2pm
Tifosi Optics Headquarters
1051 Industrial Blvd. Watkinsville, GA

See you there,

UGH - I really wanted to do this, hence I started the thread.  We are moving into our house over the weekend and my wife will be pretty P.O.ed if I go off on the ride and not help with the moving and the kids.

I'll still try to talk here into letting me go to the bike swap though!
