Subject: Host Hotel IM Cozumel
Just in case anybody was interested, I emailed and found out the following re: if there was one host hotel, or to just choose the one you like the best, and here is what they told me:

"Transition and swim venues are closer to Wyndham, Presidente Mieliá and Fiesta Americana, finish liine is closer to El Cozumeleño.

It´s on you to decide where to be closer to.

See you in Cozumel!"

I was just on the site checking out the host hotels.  I have no idea where to stay- it's so hard to decide!

Fiesta Americana is "between T1/T2" and the finish, closer to transition.   El Cozumuleno is well north of the finish, and much further north than T1/T2.

I'd stay at Casa Mexicana if I were doing it, right at the finish

You want an AWESOME hotel that is right in the middle of everything but still completely quiet at night?  Casa Mexicana all the way.  You'll wake up to the most breathtaking view of the water every morning to boot.  It is an middle of the road pricing also.  I am very serious about this place.  Been to Coz about 10 times and this is a great place to stay.  Some of the nicest people running it I have ever ran into.  This is saying a lot about Coz also because everyone is very nice there.  Just make sure to get waterfront and not courtyard view.  It is well worth the extra $20.00 or so a night.

I'm thinking I may have to get down to jockstrap this event.

One question- does this hotel have it's own restuarant?  I'm assuming they do since they mention a breakfast buffet and have room service, but I didn't see anything else about meals on there??  As you can tell, I want to make sure I can chow down before the race

The breakfast is a top notch buffet with the greatest guy around who runs it.  They do other room service but don't have a restaurant.  But not to worry.  Many of the best restaurants around within 1 block to 10 blocks.  My favorote reastaurants anywhere are in Coz.

Glad to hear the breakfast is top notch!  I'm just worried about getting sick from eating at other places.  Can you trust the local resturants- are they safe/clean ???  I was thinking that I might be safer staying at an all inclusive or something like that

You'd have to check aboutrace morning breakfast though......  starts at 7 normally. 

As for water and food, yes the food is safe.  Any restaurant you eat at will have filtered water, in the ice too.  Food is clean.  They get THOUSANDS of cruise ship passengers a day, they can't afford to play around with that.

All inclusives are not immune from those problems.  There are some great world class restaurants in Coz. I'd rather try the varied menus than an all inclusive

Primas, El Moro, Especia, Casa Denis.....  yummy

I know this may be a total rookie question, but this will be my first IM, when the race is over do you get your stuff from transition that night or the next day? Which will tell me if I want to be near transition or the finish line?

Accdg to the website you have to clear out your stuff by midnight......  at lesat that's what i recall reading.  thought it was kind of odd so maybe that's not correct, might want to read thru the site

That's how it was at Wisconsin.  They do have a sheet of paper you can fill out and give to someone who may be there to help you.  It allows them to go into transition area and take care of yourself.  My wife and brother picked up my bike and other stuff while I was running.  Big relief to not have to deal with that after running an IM marathon.
