I will be 50 years old on December 1st and plan on spending about 140 bucks on something for myself.

Some of the things I think I need are:

#1) Garmin 305

#2) Bike repair/maintenance stand

#3) Tri-Bike (not in the $140 budget)

Based on everyones return on investment experience, what would be the better choice?

Thanks

Mark

305 is a sweet item to use for training etc.  Not knowing your situation, you may also benefit from an aero helmet as well, or a professional bike fit.

The Edge vs the Forerunner?  Will the edge work for running as well as biking?

Thanks

I think everyone is missing the obvious in your list.

Get the Tri bike!     You only turn 50 once.

If you carry it in your hand and are OK with MPH instead of M/M. Cool Seriously, have no idea what the Edge would have that the FR doesn't, and the FR gives you so much more.

Get the Forerunner and don't look back. If in doubt, go find the recent "Best Bang for you Buck" thread to see how many people listed their FR305.

Neither.

1) I have a 305 and don't use it, mainly because keeping it charged is a PITA but also because I personally don't get any value from it beyond a cheap bike computer.

2) I do repair/maintenance on a $5 wall mount thingy that goes under my top tube. I attach the bike with an old tire tube with two loops tied to the ends that are the perfect length to loop over the thingy's ends. If I want the bike super stable, I make it front heavy by moving it forward on the thingy, and put a weight (old 8 lb dumbbell) on top of the front wheel holding it to the ground.

Silver BT membership for one year $90

Use the rest towards a race registration fee  and start a training plan in the new year.

Hire a baby sitter and go get hammered. Not on the list but definitely a fantastic choice.

FR 305... best $140 you can spend.
