Hello everyone! I am a very beginner, aiming for my first sprint tri (or hopefully multiple tri's) this summer in beautiful Colorado. I began getting back in shape in October and have been making steady progress. Lately, I have been focusing on my swimming - I joined a masters swim program and have been loving that and seeing real improvement! My running is so very slow (10 minute miles) but is coming along (Is it better that I run intervals at my level rather than just knocking out 3-4 miles each time I run, which is what I have been doing?). My biking is pretty OK and I feel I have good support for improvement in that arena. This site has given me great info on HR monitoring, diet/nutrition, and a training program - thanks! I feel I have just switched from "exercising" to "training" within the last month and am so energized by it all!
Glad to be here!

Hello and welcome! Don't worry too much about times just yet. I'm a pretty slow runner, too, but I know that I'll be able to finish the tri. I've started to added some intervals to my workouts, but the distance/endurance is a much higher priority for me. I seem to have a mental barrier to a 4+ mile run...

Hi! Welcome! What races are you doing? I'll also be doing my 1st tri (sprint) in Colorado this summer.

I think intervals is a good thing. It helps increase your speed and is a good distraction from just pounding out the miles.

Good luck!

So far, the only one I have signed up and paid for is the Danskin but I have my eye on the series in Boulder and an early Sept one in Windsor (Northern CO). They changed the date of the Windsor tri and it is now the same as the last in the Boulder series!
Thanks for the input on the intervals...As with most people, my training time is precious and I just want to make sure I am doing something profitable with my time!

Welcome to the site!

I definitely agree that Colorado is beautiful. My parents live there, and everytime I visit it's harder to leave.

If it is your first time doing tri's, most of the advice seems to be not to worry about doing intervals yet ( or at least doing them a lot ), but to build a good solid base of endurance. Ask lots of questions in the forums, there is a wealth of information among the collective members of the site!

Joining the masters swim program is great. About your runs, 10 min miles aren't bad, if you have until July, I suspect you'll see improvements by then.

lilblue: Welcome to the site! Someday, I'd love to do a race in Colorado. What a place to get started! You've already made a great start, by joining the masters swim. You should have several triathlon clubs around you (in CO), so look for a good one and sign up with them. As for running, it's ok to do what you're doing. Start off slowly, with low mileage, and gradually increase a little each week. After you've built a good base for at least a couple of months, then start a little interval training at your local track.

This is a great site to look into for your training and nutrition. Welcome, again, and hope to hear how your race went!
