Subject: The phone list

For years I've had this obscure theory about telephone extension lists.  Does this happen at your company?  You have a list of everyone's telephone extension numbers and it's always out of date.  Linda doesn't work there any more, George has been transferred to a new department and has a new extension, yadda yadda.  Suddenly, the put out a new list, and within days of it being printed, a major change happens in the company that immediately throws the new list into chaos.  I can count on it like clockwork.  So my theory is that whenever a new list comes out,  be prepared, something drastic is about to happen.

Case in point...our company put out a new list last Tuesday, before I left for Florida.  I get back to work this afternoon, and find out that while I was running Gasparilla, the company I work for has been sold, for the 3rd time in the past 6 years.  No shiznitz has hit the fan yet, but I'm crossing my fingers.

Maybe I should just retire and train!

My company is good at maintaining the list of 100+ pages of word file, with updates every month.  The file is posted on the company server.  That includes not only their office extensions and fax numbers, but lab extentions, and extentions to the common areas and every conference room of the corporate within the globe.

However, our main switchboard's voice recognition system is terrible.  Say if you ask for "Tom Smith", you'll hear "please wait.....connecting.... Boahene Niambati".  Once I LMAO when calling in sick to my boss.

Now did they quit, or were they "let go" from the list, and took it as a sign?

My company has caller ID internally. A few years ago a colleague passed away. About 6 months later, I was very surprised to see his name pop up on my caller id.

Someone should let these people know about these new-fangled things called "computers" and "databases" and "web servers".

I smell business opportunity.

After my grandfather died, My uncle was at my grandmother's house. He sent me some email from their internet connection, using my grandfather's old account...when his name showed up, I thought I had received an email from beyond!

Turns out he was actually laid off years ago but because of a glitch in the system he just kept getting paid... so they "fixed" the glitch. The problem eventually worked itself out!
