Subject: RE: Belecheck: Suspension, Fine or Pass?flip18436572 - 2012-09-24 12:42 PM If the rule says fine him then fine him. If the rule says suspension, the suspend. I lean toward X2ing the above, but 1) I have no idea what the rule says and 2) I think players and coaches are causing many of the problems with the refs. These refs are not scrubs, they're just not the NFL regulars. So the players explode at every call the refs make regardless of the legitimacy of their complaints. Then the refs get either ticked about the reaction to every call or they start doubting their calls. Baseball doesn't allow batters/pitchers/catchers to question balls and strikes in part because if you did it all the time, the ump would hesitate to make his gut call which is usually pretty right (not to mention the delays to an already slow game). I think it's insane that College Football has full-time refs but the NFL can't say "no Ed, you're not allowed to be a school superintendent, here's a big fat salary to make you a full-time employee of the NFL." Of course, then you couldn't fine them for mistakes. Maybe you could take money out of their bonus... If Al Michael and Chris Collinsworth weren't saying every 5 seconds that the replacement refs need to get the game under control, I could've actually watched the game! |
