Swim
Comments: MAJOR PANIC ATTACK about 3 minutes into the race. MAJOR, MAJOR PANIC ATTACK. I hadn't swum for two weeks before the event, figured I'd be fine, got a tad cocky on the swim start. Went out strong, realized quickly I wish I had trained more and that snowballed into major freakout...can't breathe, i'm drowning. I hate swimming. I want to take this wetsuit off. I started swimming for the SAG boat. I seriously did. I was DONE with the race. I was almost to the boat and realized I had calmed down. Tried a few strokes, pulled my head out of the water...tried a few more....tried a few more. Soon found my rhythym and had a decent swim the rest of the time. I freaked out about the time, though....my worst ever for what I thought was a .5....found out later it was 1/4 mile longer than I thought so I was happy with it. What would you do differently?: Train more. Get a new tri suit so I don't have to wear a wetsuit in this water..or invest in a farmer john. Transition 1
Comments: GREAT TRANSITION!!!!! Things I learned... 1. Taping GU to bike post and refueling once I'm ON the bike. 2. No socks 3. Put bike helmet on first I smoked the transition (down from 5 minutes from last tri) What would you do differently?: Bring the time down further! Bike
Comments: I felt I had a great ride. I rehydrated and refueld oncce I was on the bike and kept it at a pretty good clip. Passed a lot of riders and felt really, really strong the whole way through. What would you do differently?: I have the endurance, but I really need to work on my speed.... Transition 2
Comments: Again, a good transition. Not sure about the time but it was a quick one. Helmet off, no socks, shoes on, grabbed a GU and started running. Knew their was a water station at the beginning so rehydrated there. What would you do differently?: nothing. Run
Comments: Ahhh, yes, my white whale. I felt good during the run, but dammit, I'm giving up a LOT of time on this part. I'm really going to focus training in this area. I felt good and strong throughout. What would you do differently?: Train harder. Post race
Warm down: water, water, water.... 2 red bulls (which Jenny and I both had and which set us off talking a mile a minute until we crashed about an hour from home) What limited your ability to perform faster: I half-assed trained for this one and knew it going in. I'm proud of the time I posted but regretful knowing I could have gone out a lot stronger if I had put some effort into it. I have another sprint in September and then one in October with some reachable goals. Event comments: The results aren't official yet, but based on the results at the race it appears that I placed 2nd as an Athena.....what's even better is this time the field was at least 10 deep (vs. last race where I placed second with a field that was only about 5 deep in Athenas). That felt good but I have a goal for a first place finish one of these days! Last updated: 2004-08-07 12:00 AM

Up at 4 to gas up the car and buy a disposable camera...yeah, yeah, could have done it last night but was too tired after playing softball...
2 hour drive with Jenny to the event included requisite stop at Starbucks for grande soy latte (mmmmmm) and bagel and cream cheese. Did a quick ride when we got there, stretched and a swim warm up.
