February 2006 Run Challenge

Rules & Terms

It’s base building time! Unless you have a trainer, bike time is hard to get in February. Swimming endurance and technique has been a focus for many. Now let’s get on the road and pound some pavement!

Rules/Guidelines

This is a challenge to promote the attainment of a specific run distance or time goal. Any distance over goal (over 100%) will be tossed out for the purposes of calculating the winning team.

Align yourself with a team. We are lining up regional teams for this challenge but if you find yourself a Challenge Orphan, PM a team captain and ask to join their team or just declare your allegiance. We're not formal about joining a team. Please publicly announce so that you are put on the roster.

Team members calculate and pledge their run distance or time goal for the month of February 2006. Races, road running, running/walking and walking applies toward the count.

Visit www.usatf.org/routes/ for a run distance calculator.

Team members need to report their goal to their Team Captain by February 1.

Team Captains must report their goals to berlinsd by end of day February 3.

Each team will pick a Captain (or you may self-declare) and the Captain is responsible for collecting the weekly run distance or time totals from their team members, and reporting said distances or times to berlinsd.

Participants must blog their run training. If it's not blogged, it didn't happen for the purposes of this Challenge.

Reporting week begins Monday and ends Sunday. Captains, please report weekly numbers by Monday morning to berlinsd. Please use my PM to report your team weekly totals.

Individual Goals can be either distance or time. Many of us like to log miles and run routes. Others shoot for times. You can choose only one goal (distance or time). Your % goal accomplishment will be based upon how far you go at attaining your goal.

For example. Athlete #1 puts a goal of 50 miles. He runs 45 miles. That’s 90%.
Athlete #2 puts a goal of 100 minutes. He runs 90 minutes. That’s 90%. They will both impact their teams the same. We’re just bringing everything to a common denominator... a percentage.

Determining Winning Team(s)

Calculations for determining winning team will be done the same as the January swim challenge. It will be a combination of % of team members who reached their goal +final percentage of aggregate team goal attainment. In this way, both individual goal attainment and team effort both carry weight. It also levels the playing field (for teams with fewer team members). It will work like this:

Calculate the percentage of team members who reached their goal.

Calculate the aggregate team goal attainment average (throwing out anything over 100%).

Average these 2 numbers. The team with the highest average of these two numbers wins.

Terms for Losing Teams

Nothing. It’s all about pride.

Other Legally Binding Stuff:

Smack talking is not mandatory but certainly makes things a little more interesting.

Please don't take the smack talking personal. If you find yourself feeling like you've been slighted, go clean your bike then post a zippy comeback or just say something like "You're a booger head!" You'll get cheers for being a good sport and you'll have a clean bike.

As with all challenges, this is an honor system, self-reporting challenge.

The ultimate goal is for you to meet your goal. That’s what it’s all about. That, and a little smack talking.

OK since it's a time OR distance thing...I guess I'm in. I'm willing to captain the FLORIDA FORCE again if no one objects or wants the job more. Otherwise, I'm happy to be just a teammate!

I need a run challenge.  I'm sure the heck not doing a good job on my own.  This once or twice a week isn't cutting it for me.

I think there's enough interest for a midwest team.  If so, I'll volunteer to be captain.  Unless someone else want to do it.  I'd be happy to just be a participant too.

OK, I'll captain the Mid-Atlantic Monster Milers if that's okay with the group.

IM me if you would like to be on the team with your goals and whether it is in miles or minutes.

I'll figure out mine after I take a closer look at the training schedule!

I'm in. I nominate you to be our Captain.

And Sulis lives near a really big lake so that's probably enough to join us.
