Take a look at what this poor guy faced on his evening jog - saw this in the paper today: A Saskatoon man's evening jog became a struggle for his life in northern Saskatchewan when a timber wolf lunged at his head and sunk its teeth into his leg. With his adrenaline surging, Fred Desjarlais, 55, was able to fight off several attacks by the large predator before jumping on its back and wrestling it into submission long enough for a passing busload of co-workers to arrive and scare the beast away."I don't know what came over me or how I did it. All I know is I had his head and I wasn't letting go until someone came to help me," said Desjarlais. The wolf weighed "at least" 100 pounds and was taller than Desjarlais when it stood on its hind legs. He was recovering Monday at his Saskatoon home and suffering from bouts of post-traumatic stress that have stolen his sleep.

OMG, that's crazy! I wonder why the wolf attacked him (I don't know much about timber wolves, but most animals usually have a reason). Well, good for him for having such an AMAZING survival instinct!

Holy Moly! Glad he came out with all limbs intact. Sure hope he overcomes his stress. That can sure leave an emotional mark on one.

If you had an attachement included, I still don't know where it is but thanks for sharing the story.

While near the top of the food chain people are not always the TOP predator. My guess is that a dog of that size was a hungry male. We have a bit of a cougar problem where I live and they are not the least bit fritened of people either. Joggers out on trail runs have to be carefull, especially during winter when food is scarse. If you run in a area where other large predators are present it is wise to carry pepper spray.

I bet some of you are glad you live in the city!

Holy Cow... Thank goodness he survived... another reason for the treadmill in the winter - avoiding hungry wild animals.

I tried to put an attachment to the article, it was from some small paper in northern canada. but I couldn't, so I just did it the old fashioned way, cut and paste!!

And of course there's always the killer rabbit...the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on...I mean he's got huge, sharp-- he can leap about-- look at the bones!

Jackelopes have been known to take down cyclists, pickup trucks, convoy vehicles, whatever in search of peanut butter....mmmmm.

Glad the guy's OK, could happen anywhere.  Heard about a lot of attacks on x-country skiiers, lucky to have avoided it thus far....

Bart - running, being chased by vicious guard dogs
Homer:"run faster!" - throws a steak to distract the dog. dog swallows it whole at full speed, keeps chasing Bart
Homer:"Faster boy, its got the taste for meat now!"

Glad the guys ok - it reminds me of the story about the woman attacked by a mtn lion in California last year who wasn't as lucky. Its easy to forget sometimes that we're part of nature too...

I'm glad that the guy is okay....something has got to be up with that wolf.  Wither he was starving, or perhaps he was a, <gasp> werewolf.  Betcha didn't consider that, huh?
