and I need some encouragement to get training back on schedule.  I have had a very stressful last few weeks and I can't seem to find the focus/motivation to stick to my schedule.  Perhaps I need a training partner to keep me accountable.  Anyone slow in the London area?...

Might as well jump in here! I was reading up on this race yesterday and considering signing up as well. I'm doing a super sprint (Bulldog Try-a-Try at Rondeau Park) as my first race at the end of August and like the idea of also doing a full sprint before the season ends.

Do you know much about the race? The race website says 750m swim and 5 km run... the course maps, though, say 600m swim and 4km run. Which is it??

I'm slow too, but not in London!...

Thanks for the tips! One more question. I don't have a wetsuit and wasn't planning to buy one until (a) I try a couple of tris and make sure I'm in this for the long haul and (b) drop a bit of weight. How warm is the Lakeside water in late September? Will I regret not having one?

The water was low to mid 70s last September.  You won't "NEED" one, but if you decide you want to use one, you can rent one.  Check out the tri shops where you live.

Tri shops where I live... Um... NONE! I'm in Chatham. Are there any you can recommend in London?

multsportzone rents in london.  They will likely be at lakeside and you would be able to pick up the suit on race day.  They are also having a training day in open water in July (I think in Port Stanley) and you could be able  to rent a suit for that day as well to practice.

there website is http://www.multisport-zone.com/  The guys at the store are really great as well

I'm slow and in London. Message me about your training schedule and we can see if we can work something out.
Here's what I know.  Multisport Zone is great, but it's better if you rent the wetsuit for the whole weekend if you've never swam in one before, and you'll want to practice getting out it when it's wet. I am not sure if they run out of wet suits or not, but I"d rent one early.
A [place called Reynold's cycle...the one on Dundas is not longer renting wet suits, but they are selling off their rentals, or at least they were when I was there last week.
There are usually two races at Lakeside.  The one they call the "sprint" is actually shorter than a regulation sprint.  Then the one that they just call "triathlon" is actually pretty close to a standard sprint race.  I think this is the reason for the confusion.  Are you signed up for the Saturday or the Sunday?

According to their website they've changed the races this year to be a traditional sprint distance 750/20k/5k on Saturday, and an Olympic on Sunday.  This may have been done somewhat recently, when I was on before the season I'm pretty sure the distances were shorter.

I'll be there doing the sprint on Saturday.

Sorry, to clarify after reading the earlier post, I would trust the distance on the race schedule, the course maps are from last year.

From what I remember of the course from 5 years ago I suspect they will just add 1k to the bike turnaround and 500m past the run turnaround on the maps.  Never know though.

I was planning to sign up for the Saturday sprint... not the Sunday.

I heard there are normally two Lakeside events each year - one in June and one in September - but the June event was cancelled this year. Any idea why? Is the September event at risk of being cancelled also?

Lakeside in June got moved to Woodstock to appease the neighbours.  Lakeside in September has increased its distances.  It's a great venue.  Have a great tri.

All will be happy to know that I got back on track this week with training, and have added the additional green training by riding my bike to work (as previously planned for the warmer months).

Lakeside is a great venue. Between me, my wife and the kids, we've raced Lakeside 10 times in the past 4 years. Its a very family friendly venue, and I always find I have fun during the race.
The sprint course will be 750m Swim, 20km Bike, 5km Run this year.
The lake is very small and shallow so the water temperature fluctuates with the weather.
I'll be racing the Olympic distance on Sunday.
Cheers,
Mark

If you look at the course map for the Olympic distance, you'll see the sprint distance courses, since it's half the Oylmpic.
