how could i pass up this one????

Uh oh, the men in white coats tell us that you're barking mad!

Put simply, you're a nutter. But we mean that in a good way! - Nutters can be heaps of fun. Whether it's a physical stunt or an emotional leap, you'll do and try anything at least once. Dancing on top of a bar (even when you're sober)?
That's a bit of a laugh. Telling someone you're in love on the first date? No worries, if that's how you feel. You love doing things other people regard as a bit daft, and you probably can't be bothered if they laugh at you - as long as they're laughing, who cares why? Getting a reaction is what it's all about. Your devilish attitude suggests that you have a strong urge for fun and excitement. But remember to use your common sense and listen to the little voice inside your head (no, not that one) every so often. If your reputation merely consists of "that person who does all those mad things," you may end up disappointed when people won't take you seriously in other situations. And whilst it's fine to feel both positive and negative emotions strongly, you shouldn't let your feelings rule every aspect of your behaviour. It's one thing to want to be honest and direct, but trust us, balance and moderation are good things. As long as you temper your unrestrained approach to life with occasional periods of sanity - and do your best not to get arrested - it's completely acceptable to be as mad as a hatter.

really? ella totally wants a bird she can teach to talk. we saw the most beautiful 3 month old quaker parrot at the pet store this weekend. he was $600...a bit pricey for someone who might end up as a cat snack. maybe when louis (our younger cat) is older we can think about it.

My mom has a quaker.  He's an awesome bird.  He's actually smart enough to hold a conversation with you.  He'll tell you exactly what he wants, or let you know it's time for him to go to bed, he even understands the difference between "my" and 'your'.  It's really cute to wake up in the morning to him saying "good morning.  I want out, come here, I want out. I want thankyous (what he calls food)".

Birds are a lot of work though.  They need a lot of interaction and they can be "noisy."  $600 seems high for a quaker.  When you do decide to get one, see if you can find a breeder or a bird store near you.  They will probably have several different species that you can look at and play with, and they should be able to tell you more about personalities, as different species and even different genders have different personalities.  As for cats, my parents have 2 cats.  They just have to be locked up while the bird is out.  It's to the point now where when he knows he's coming out he tells the cats to go to bed, and they listen.

A nutter? Crazy? Loopy? Not you! You're all about control - you like to colour inside the lines, drive the speed limit, and return library books on time. In short, your behaviour and emotions are completely within your control. Always there when someone needs you, you like to be taken seriously, and you're as dependable and safe as they come. Whilst that's certainly a role that needs filling, we have one question for you: Would it kill you to let yourself crease up once in a while?
It's okay to go a bit crazy every so often. Not that sanity is bad - far from it. But having a laugh is also important, as is allowing yourself to be the centre of attention sometimes. Of course, it can be difficult to go wading in a public fountain at noon or tell your best mate exactly what's on your mind. But making room in your life for a good giggle or a bit of devilish behaviour will keep you from bottling everything up inside. Embrace your inner loopiness. You'll have fun - trust us!

That's good to know. I thought maybe shaving my head would count against me.

BTW, quakers aren't really the best of talkers. And they're LOUD. Really loud. There's a feral population of them near me and I can always tell when they're around (by which I mean within 1/4 to 1/2 of a mile) because they make soooooo much noise.
I'm a fan of the cockatiel myself, you might not get a talker, but they are quite friendly when handraised and treated well, and even if they don't talk, they won't wake you up at an ungodly hour just for some attention either.

actually hand raised quakers are rated as the second best talkers of all parrot species.  The top 3 are Budgies, Quakers and African Greys.    After living around my mom's quaker I can vouch for that.  They can be loud, but parrots are loud by nature.  I guess it's just something I've gotten used to.  It also really depends on how you raise them.  Ferrel Quakers are, well.... wild.  That and they only know the squawks of their flock.  Once they learn words, they are much quiter.

My mistake about the general nature of quaker talking ability. I've just never met one that was a good enough talker to warrant it's general obnoxiousness, but maybe I've just never met a well-trained one.
For the effort involved, I think smaller birds are a better idea, but that's just me judging from my personal parrot experiences.

thanks for the info. we may consider it in a few years when ella is actually old enough to help take care of it...and when louis is no longer a spazzy kitten. they really are pretty birds.
