Anyone here doing Ironman Canada 2008?

I'm trying to find out the best way to get a slot. My original plan was to try and get a spot in the spring of 2008 at Muskoka but it seems too risky, trying to qualify and maybe not getting one. Although from what I can tell, there's plenty of available slots in my age group at Muskoka.

Is there any option to go to Ironman Canada 2007 and get one right then and there after the race.

The sign up for next year's IMC is done by showing up the day after the race to sign up in person.

FYI,

Muskoka is the most competitive race of the year, in Ontario. They come from far and wide for those precious spots.

I don't know how fast you are but if your not consistently on top of your age group it's going to be tough.

A good goal, a great race! this will be my fourth time there.

that's not good....

did you say it was easy if you were consistently at in the bottom half of your age group! I'd be in like flynn then! :-)

I'd better plan a business trip out there this year and try to sign up in person.....hmmmm...what excuse can I use to visit our vancouver office that time of year......

Is there any ironman that easier to get into? or are they mostly the same?

Other than Kona all IM's are easier to get into than IMC. I believe that all IM's except those 2 have some internet entries the day after the race, although they can fill in a couple of hours.

that stinks...I wanted to an IM in Canada...

Oh well...I've started investigating what other IM's are close to me and have a fresh water swim with no major hills and and easy run....hmmm...maybe that's a tall order....essentially I'm looking for an easy IM....that sounds funny

The Canadian in Ottawa is fresh water (if you call the Rideau "fresh") and the bike and run are pretty much dead flat. The only drawback is that the bike and run are on a 15 (I think) km run and therefore multiple loops.

i thought about that one....I just wanted more of the IM hoopla around the event. Plus I expect to be a Back of the packer so I was hoping for a large field so I wouldn't be alone coming in at the 15-16 hour mark.

What about IM Lake Placid?

It's got a challenging course just like IMC, it's an an Olympic site which I think is a bit special, and it's within driving distance making somewhat low cost training trips possible.

IMLP is my target goal for '08.

A friend of mine did it. It's doable. And on my top 2.

I was looking at IM Wisconsin but the pictures I've seen did look that great. I'll have to find some hills around here to practice on.

Now just to find out how to get a spot for 08. Is there an online signup after the race so we don't have to go there.

I'll stick to doing the Ottawa IM.  It is just about one of the least expensive IM's around and I can sign up for it on the mornign of the event!

Coolio...

I think I'll do Peterbourough 1/2 IM and then depending on how that goes I'll do the Canadian 1/2 IM....then IMLP in 2008.

I'll pm you with some questions about c3 geoff....I'd love to train with some others going to IMLP....

How are you planning on entering?

TimmyMay, looks like our plans are in sync. Canadian HIM in September and IMLP in 08. Hopefully we'll get to train together at some point, but if not we should at least look out for one another at the events. It's always nice to meet a fellow BTer.

Oh yeah. Have a look at this...

http://www.thedailygrindblog.com/2006/12/open-call.html

Joe is another BTer and is organizing two training sessions in LP this summer. Probably not a bad idea to go out there for a weekend and ride the bike course.

For sure I'm in.....

I've been reading race reports today from IMLP 06 and looking at the bike course profile. I'm getting over my cold and am totally pumped to pick the trianing up a notch.
